Doc's have long passed being the shoes of just skins, goths, rivetheads , metalheads or some other alt group. Beyond that the shoe didn't define anything, the laces and the way you tied them on the other hand.

I never bought a pair. Too much money for a stupid sneaker, even then.

Unfortunately, they'll be able to co-opt the brand whether the company agrees or not. It reminds me of the sissy gangbanger who got all excited when he saw my eye/pyramid tattoo back in the '90s.
