When people actually believe someone cannot govern because of their religion, cannot separate their religious beliefs from their secular
responsibilities, that just because they are Muslim (despite being American citizens, born in Michigan no less) they are somehow unfit for political
leadership - a standard not applied to other faiths - this is the first thing that goes through my mind. Just being honest:

If I disagree with someone's policies, so be it. (And I actually do agree with some of Ellison's positions, while hugely disagreeing with others.) But
I will never apply a religious, ethnic, gender, sexuality, national descent, or cultural test to someone running for public office. That's not how
America works. At least it shouldn't be imho.
