Gotta keep the lights on.

That means they need the donations to keep coming in.

What better way to do that then to provide a source of "hope" that there is something out there.

Even if the file is cracked and found to be nothing - fall back on the "we needed to keep the US off our scent" routine.

It's a hustle. Or it is a live action role play for the masses. Take your pick.

If you support/hate wiki or Assange this shouldn't change that. It's just a morsel for consumption.

using AES Crypt none of the previous codes work with these files. Gives invalid signature

I got them.

There are tools available to me that might crack them without a key, but I can't mix church & state so to speak.

Keep us posted if there's any further word and/or keys.

Great catch!

Some of my guys put their keys through an encryption algorithm several times over. Wonder if they did the same thing?

Who knows....

How do you even attempt to open these files.

I can't open any of them, and it doesn't give me the option of inputting a key. What am I missing.

Is there a step by step someone can link me to please?

Ya got file A it was 4Gb big
them did file B it was 40 Gb so I when over my month allocation off 80 Gb per month LOL
at $2.00 extra per 1 GB LOL so that 40 Gb bit file cost me $80.00 LOL
File C next on the way it a new month

To clear up some confusion:
Wikileaks is tweeting out hashes. They're not passwords to unlock a file, but a digital fingerprint to prove it's authenticity. This is likely prep for future releases. Wikileaks will release files related to John Kerry, Ecuador, and the FCO. You can compare the hash of the file that you downloaded with the one in the tweet. If it doesn't match, you know that your file is not authentic and was tampered. Hashes are useful for any downloads, particularly sensitive ones that Wikileaks releases.
