Spaceweather.com has issued the following alert:

SUN HURLS PLASMA CLOUD TOWARD EARTH: Yesterday, Nov. 5th, a magnetic filament on the sun became unstable and erupted. The blast opened a fiery canyon in the sun's atmosphere and hurled a CME toward Earth. According to NOAA models, the plasma cloud could strike Earth's magnetic field on Nov. 8th, triggering G1-class geomagnetic storms and auroras around the poles. Visit www.spaceweather.com... for updates and more information.

I am posting this here to head off the claims that any interruption of communications on Election Day is due to something nefarious. Spaceweather.com is a highly reliable source.

Or it's doctored data to provide a pretext for the looming interruptions...

It doesn't look like it's going to be too bad.
But super neat for aurora watchers!

Very well could be. They say there is no such thing as coincidence.

Meh. It's only supposed to be minor.. Just a G-1.

That's not enough to do anything but make a few pretty lights in the sky.

'CANYON OF FIRE' OPENS, SPITS A CME TOWARD EARTH: Yesterday, Nov. 5th, a filament of magnetism in the sun's northern hemisphere became unstable and erupted. The blast split the sun's atmosphere, hurling a CME into space and creating a "canyon of fire," shown here in a movie recorded by the Solar Dynamics Observatory:

I don't see any major predictions. Maybe we'll get more active aurora.

Find out who owns Spaceweather.com and we might find a connection to the elections.

That is why SOHO conveniently "went down" a couple of days ago! He mentioned it briefly during one of his morning updates but I didn't think anything more about it. I remember he said something at the end of October or early November, I wonder it there is any way to tell if it is false data from earlier? WTG NASA, getting involved in politics.

Now I don't remember if I was being /sarc or serious...
