Camera phones will get better the problem is sensor size.

Most phone sensors are around the size of the smallest sensor above with upto 16 mp my camera has an APS-C sensor with 16 mp, bigger size pixels more light hits them better quality at night less noise etc.

The Sony A7S is 12mp and a FULL FRAME (35mm ) sensor so huge pixels compared to a phone or my camera plus a few other design tricks so way better at night shots.

The Sony would definitely be on my list, if I had the money. I'm still struggling with my old Canon Rebel and a Panasonic Lumx bridge camera...and my phone, of course. I do lots of landscapes and architecture but something like the A7 would expand my horizons considerably.

Maybe I should do the lottery more often.

Yeah, I've got an HTC One, and it's got a fantastic camera on it, with night features, etc...still sucks balls. Once in a while I can get a decent still shot at night, but it's rare. That's one of the things that irks me on this site when people post footage or pics from a camera phone and people attack them for not having better quality stuff...most people can't afford better. The phones are pricey enough as it is.

Well, the good thing is, I got my iPhone for free, as a relative was upgrading to the 7S so I begged the cast-off. My old Canon Rebel DSLr was also a freebie, from a friend who could no longer use it and my Panasonic Lumix was a gift from my lovely wife.

I guess I am fortunate.

Used A7s is down to about £1500 for the camera body on Ebay.
That takes it into Gen 3 NVG territory and if vids like this are a fair representation; it would be a no brainer if you were in the market for Gen 3 NVG's due to the (significant) additional camera/video functionality of the A7s.

The military seemed to get all excited about its ENVG program but the rumor goes that they've had stuff that provides > Gen3 functionality for a while but it was too expensive to provide to none specialist units.

If you dont want to drop thousands on capturing "UFO's"; CCTV cameras with manual low light and exposure settings can provide whole sky coverage for a fraction of the price.
Dont get many of them kicking around but some of the older Samsung SDC's are perfect for the task.

Interestingly, a video has popped-up on YouTube...unfortunately, it is from Secure Team10, which will automatically rule it out as a hoax for some on ATS. However, here are some screen grabs from the relevant section...


The first frame is the full image view, the second slightly zoomed in and the third at full zoom.

The commentary describes the above as being submitted by a John Macola [or Macauler...I'm unsure about this] and the pic was taken at sunset in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The video was posted on 4/11/2016 and again, I am unsure of the date the picture was taken. The photographer says it was a routine shot and he initially thought that the object was a bird. Clearly, it is not a bird, as he discovered upon viewing the picture at what will most probably be the actual pixel size.

There is no link to a high resolution, full-sized image and until that is the case, there is no proof that this image has not been tampered with.

By now aliens likely have capabilities of just spying on us safely from space with a drone size craft with lens far better than anything we have down to the closest detail, way past the flying saucers n such imo.

Heck they might have insect size drones flying and interacting on earth

If there was a way to scan and track movement of all space debris even down to the smallest shoe size rock, maybe they could find some moving erratically or un naturally

Now if member bedlam could chime in I'm sure he could add some cool comments on what's possible what's being developed and a whole load of interesting stuff that may be of help and interest, he wrote a great thread detailing what was possible a few years ago so God knows what he could tell you there developing now.( I gather he contracts out for the mic and works in the field of optics amongst other cool stuff)

Trouble is most don't take the time to learn how to set up there camera and hell even I get overwhelmed with the settings and what they do/mean. Then I don't really have much more than an iphone 6s and a Sony Xperia phones and a nikon coolpix but I guess if I took the time to learn about iso aspect ratio gamma reduction etc it can only lead to a better shot.
I'm guessing most folk get there fancy camera out the box and assume it's all set up for that perfect shot when you can do so much better by using and experimenting with all the features. People see the word "auto" and assume it's good to go,well it is to an extent but they could be so much better with a bit of know how.

Daytime Sightings have a better chance of seeing more Detail . Anyone happen to know what this Is?
99% chance it is a balloon, but it is a strange looking balloon.
Some horizontal movement, 1-2mph towards the South , About 1,000 ft above me in Toms River N.J. on June 27th 2016 , Taken with a NIKON D80 Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM at 500mm.
No clue what it is. Any ideas?

That's a stray novelty mylar balloon living out its final hours of helium induced "life"
Note the anchor strings dangling from beneath and also I can clearly see its loosing it's novelty animal? Shape..

I completely agree that people posting UFO videos are usually catching known objects like planets, blurds and aviation lights. Those who have channels with handfuls of UFO vids are kidding us or kidding themselves.

The adsense incentives have diminished the value of footage too. At least 'olden day' film didn't have the problem of CGI to rule out. Modern hoaxing is getting better and better and 'genuine' examples are being uploaded much less. Lord knows we've chased a few off ATS over the years.

The point of the thread was to show the quality of image that can be obtained at night with modern camera tech.
