The Peace of God to all that belong to the Light,
Dear Readers,

Today it is the Holiday of St Martin of Porres, a saint that is among the greatest ever born in the Americas. His multiple and extraordinary gifts made him already famous in life: miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures, bilocation, levitation, ability to talk with animals.

He fully showed in life to have shared all possible gifts of the Holy spirit, his miracles are counted not in hundreds but in thousands, according with credited historic accounts, even since the very very time in which he lived.

He was born in Lima, Peru, as an extramarital son of a Spanish man with an African woman a former slave from Panama, then as a Mulatto, in December 9th of 1579 and died on November 3th of 1639.

He was a holy man so close to God, although he was never a priest, just a brother friar of the Dominican order with a very humble character.

Blessed Pope John XXIII's Homily at the Canonization of St. Martin De Porres:

The example of Martin's life is ample evidence that we can strive for holiness and salvation as Christ Jesus has shown us: first, by loving God "with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind; and second, by loving your neighbor as yourself."

When Martin had come to realize that Christ Jesus "suffered for us and that he carried our sins on his body to the cross,” he would meditate with remarkable ardor and affection about Christ on the cross. He had an exceptional love for the great sacrament of the Eucharist and often spent long hours in prayer before the blessed sacrament. His desire was to receive the sacrament in Communion as often as he could.

Saint Martin, always obedient and inspired by his divine teacher, dealt with his brothers with that profound love which comes from pure faith and humility of spirit. He loved men because he honestly looked on them as God's children and as his own brothers and sisters. Such was his humility that he loved them even more than himself, and considered them to be better and more righteous than he was.

He excused the faults of others. He forgave the bitterest injuries, convinced that he deserved much severer punishments on account of his own sins. He tried with all his might to redeem the guilty; lovingly he comforted the sick; he provided food, clothing and medicine for the poor; he helped, as best he could, farm laborers and Negroes, as well as mulattoes, who were looked upon at that time as akin to slaves: thus he deserved to be called by the name the people gave him: 'Martin of Charity.'

It is remarkable how even today his influence can still move us toward the things of heaven. Sad to say, not all of us understand these spiritual values as well as we should, nor do we give them a proper place in our lives. Many of us, in fact, strongly attracted by sin, may look upon these values as of little moment, even something of a nuisance, or we ignore them altogether. It is deeply rewarding for men striving for salvation to follow in Christ's footsteps and to obey God's commandments. If only everyone could learn this lesson from the example that Martin gave us.

He is an outstanding example that a lot of negative labels that can be used to discriminate a person from birth are false social prejudgements and do not have nothing to do with the will of God.

He is the Saint Patron of the harmony among races, innkeepers, of the mixed people, as well as of the healers and public health workers of all kind.

As a Secular Psychic I see this guy as another example of a super powered being throughout history. I believe these super powered individuals are just saying their abilities belong to God so they won't be executed by the Catholic inquisition.

St Martin of Porres was a man without enemies, he had always a way to forgive that is unique, either to the ones that didn't have any respect to the things of God, than toward his own people, since all humanity shares the stain of sin.

He was very well aware that his multitude of miracles called the attention of the Inquisition, after all Lima was one of the Principal sites of that institution in the new world, but he always gave thanks to God for each miracle he performed, never accepted the credit for them.

Two interesting episodes of the legend of his life illustrate this situation:

A group of Crookes that were walking in the streets of LIma close to his convent saw him at a distance, they were coming intoxicated from a bar, one pretended to be extremely sick and the rest asked the Friar to come and heal his friend. All was a trick to make later mockery of the saint and try to expose him as a fraud. When St Martin approached the man he tried to revive him, since he was apparently faded, but after a minute or so He turned to his friends and said to them that unfortunately he was called late, then he applied to him the last rites since it was already dead. The men reacted astonished and scared to see that effectively his buddy was indeed dead.

It is also said that when the suspicions became great around his person his own superior in the Dominican order asked him to stop to perform miracles. Then the day after he received such command a man that was painting and repairing the roof the convent suddenly fell accidentally from the ladder that was supporting him.

St Martin was in the room when the accident happened, so knowing the prohibition he was subject to he just commanded the body of this person to levitate until he could go in a hurry and ask to his principal what to do? when he asked if he could save the man and he received the approval he needed then he came back and make the man to fall slowly like a feather of his temporal estate of suspension.

Thanks,

lack of internal consistency is noted :
