I think the problem is that some people who are looking for answers feel they can talk about and debate religions. But the die hard xealots cannot. what they believe is absolute truth to them.
So while it may seem like "bashing" someone's religion, I think they just want to talk about it/debate it, which is impossible with someone who takes it as pure fact.

there are zealot atheists.

it's also impossible to debate with someone who thinks God and the Bible are pure garbage.

What I don't understand, and no Christian basher has ever made clear to me is the following:

You have rejected the Christian beliefs

A misguided attempt to Save? Similar to what irks them about some christians - when they are quite happy worrying about their own soul, thank you very much, etc.

Damnation. Ignorance. Same difference.
We want to save each other. It's kind of touching, really...

Now everybody in this thread come here for a big group hug.

Nope - that's just it. I come to this board, I discuss my beliefs, I don't trash others. I never approach any one and say 'You're goin' to hell!' But then, some one who believes differently (or not at all) starts threads like this...that lead me to have to say - Guess what! I think you're going to hell! Nor do I attempt to convert anyone. A Christian witness occurs through life - there are three Great Commandments given to me - none of them have to do with potty mouth by the way.

Salvation is not about whether you got drunk last night - or whether you can cuss like sailor
- and if Lady V's whole point was that a hypocrit is all that's standing between her and God - then my point would be - oops! Look who is standing closer!

These are petty attacks on people's belief systems because there is some undying need from the rejectors to have the believers say - YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT!

And on a side note....props to you LadyV.
I read that other post with Deesw in it. (Took a while...whew!)
And I noticed that every response you gave, had quotes and sources.

where as Deesw retaliated with not one quote or link to any information in that whole mess.

Deny Ignorance.

That could be, too.

Anyway.

You both might be right.

Now see here - see how accepting WE are?

You are taking the moral highground?
I have now got people PRAYING for me trying to impose some sort of jesus vision or something that will save me.

I have not suggested other people need saving have I? But those who do believe in hell- and god. If they tell me I need saving from it- they are suggesting I am immoral enough to qualify for hell, which is insulting so pretending they are being 'nice' by praying for my conversion is ludicrous.
To make everyone happy I'll got through the motions.. "I see the light. I can feel his love" etc.. I will now continue on with my life as usual.

You called our beliefs illogical and equated them to believing in Santa Claus

From MY perception* it is.. perhaps you should actually reread what I said:

because the concept is not logical or rational to *me*
.

So where are the generalisations about other people I made? I do not consider all believers illogical or irrational. I hope I have made myself clear. I resent the insinuation thats I was belitteling people.

Me.
Rest of world.
Differring opinions and perceptions. Get it?

I do not have your mind, your eyes, your life so your perception, logic and rationale are completely different. If I saw how you viewed 'god' through your eyes I am quite certain I would understand how you could believe in it.. but I can't.. it seems silly to me- hence why I used santa clause to express how silly I find it.. but thats probably just because our brains are wired differently. I meant no offence.. but I suspect you know that but you have to demonise someone.

No, but you're sure talking a lot to try to get me to say something different, now aren't you?

And so the cycle goes.

Here's the deal I offer you: You take your logic and your rationale and you utilize that little ol' free will however you like...k?

And over here where I'm sitting...I'm going to do the exact same thing...k?

I've got this feeling way down deep inside that we're going to exercise in different ways....I won't start a thread saying I'm disgusted by your decision...and I'm asking you not to start a thread about how disgusting you think my decision is.

See how we can all play nice?

Riley we are not suggesting you are immoral enough to qualify for hell, we are saying we all are immoral enough to qualify for hell. All humans are sinners whose salvation and forgiveness can only be assured by the blood of jesus christ. We are weak, impure, imperfect, and immoral. But despite all of our failures, shortcommings, and petty evil's God loved us enough to sacrifice his son for our salvation.

So, all Christians are nasty, drunkards that watch porn and judge other people. Looks like man kind has been deceived into worshipping false entities.. LadyV seems to be the all knowing figure that should be followed...
Ok, bit harsh but come on.. your statement is garbage.

Life is full of different sorts of people and organisations. Look at the bigger picture. If you have issues with EVERY christian that you come across, I would really need to start questioning your inter-personal skills. I have met plenty of christians that don't deserve the title.. true, yet I have met many more that show many of the characteristics that the Bible portrays.

Unfortunately, all the wiccen followers I have met have tended to be drug smoking hippies, however not once have I claimed that all witches match this specification.

1. Unlike yourself, I wouldn't even contemplate calling your beliefs disgusting. [unless they involve eating small children].
2. My atheism was not a decision.. I didn't 'opt' to become one.. it was gradual realisation.

Riley we are not suggesting you are immoral enough to qualify for hell, we are saying we all are immoral enough to qualify for hell.

But this includes me. I do not believe in orignal sin [obviously I consider evolution to be fact].. and I have christian ethics.. but that is no doubt a product of nature and nurture as I was raised a christian. I do not deny that I am flawed and have made choices that I'm not proud of ['sin' to you] ..but I have met many people that are inherently good and would qualify for heaven regardless of whether they have been taught to believe in it or not. Many retarded people I have met [for example] are incapable of sinning because they're innately compassionate and pure.

All humans are sinners whose salvation and forgiveness can only be assured by the blood of jesus christ.

Funny that- I always thought christ said it was the message [love] that was important not the messenger.
You do not have to believe in god to share the same philosophies as christ.

Val you like to twist things hu? I did not say the Christian faith was disgusting...I said I was degusted...you are intelligent enough to know the difference. And as I explained...I get degusted with being told something is absolute when it's not....and I do not "bash" Christians (not coming from you but another poster) I state when told something is absolute, that it is not.......and I state the truth that the bible has been altered.

However, when Christian viewpoints restrict the rights of others, such as a woman's right to choose, the rights of gays and other lifestyle choices, even restrictions on science education in schools....THEN it crosses the line.

How is being gay or murdering a child a right?
Away from my Christian views for a moment,,what exactly grants someone the right to murder their child or be homosexual or to teach that evolution is the way everything was created in our public schools? People are getting rediculous nowadays. It appears that a lot of people believe it is totally fine to murder a baby, but completely wrong to execute a convicted murderer. I don't have to quote the Bible to argue these points, but I reserve the rights to do so.

What gives you the right to judge what people do with their own bodies? While we're at it.. what gives you the right to judge at all? Perhaps you should quote the bible [not serious], it says you are not suppose to judge others.. I'm guessing you pick and choose what you want to follow.
