I can't imagine Dust Bowl conditions. We've never seen anything like it in our age, from what I understand.

They do suck because you gotta cover your eyes or else you really will be blinded.

Back in 1997 I lived in Clovis California and Clovis NM traveled out there to play high school football. Yall crushed the Californians, it was so funny. They dont realize how serious the sport is in those parts.

Called my old univ. at Portales. They say it's clear and nothing on their radar.

Clear....

It was like this for about 50 Minutes...

Then immediately went to this for 5 minutes...

This is the latest, at 9:06 EDT

Fairly awesome, and no stations out there seem to be reporting anything unusual.

Not enough detail but it sort of looks like a chaff drop. Sort of.

eta: An old RR-188 drop at Huntsville, one of several chaff drops over the Huntsville area

That really looks similar to what was seen. Good catch.
The high DBZ, as pointed out, is still pretty significant.

Mmmm..
Remember a similar incident over Redstone Arsenal Alabama a couple years ago?
I called this a "Smart Chaff test.
Particals managed to hang around for a day. Left a white webby residue.

S&F

It will take a bit as I'm busy. But there is a thread here about the RedStone Arsenal weather phenomenon.

I'm thinking that the Doppler may have became HOT and out of calibration. From about 17:26 - 17:36 - 17:40 - 17:45 - 17:49 - 17:54-18:04, all display a DBZ (The colors represent the strength of returned energy to the radar expressed in values of decibels (dBZ))between 50 to 70 inches an hour. From 18:04 to 18:27, there is some time available to have re calibrated the Doppler.
Or, because of the local, it is home to the 27th Special Operations Wing. If an aircraft (landing on runway 13) needed to dump an unknown type of fuel that would have taken 40 minutes to evaporate.
Chaff, idk, it didn't show up on Intellicast.

I live near there. Nothing but clear sky and little wind. Beautiful conditions out here.

There is a radar in this area than is down as much as it is up. Other than ground clutter it is clear too.

I find the first theory here more plausible of the two. Each radar station supplies it's own presentation to the whole, they could have had a sensitivity issue.

I do think Bedlam has in nailed though, very significant past event very much like it.

This thing seems to be spreading out in all directions and covering a significantly greater area:

ooh... Just read this. Is it a no-fly notice? Can you translate it?
I could not get in to the Notam link. Interesting.

It looks like that, yeah.

Zaph or Bedlam can probably better translate than me.

Wondering what height the radar is picking up whatever it is (chaff does make the most sense at the moment).

Yeah the link isn't working for me now as well...

Relatively stationary central mass, From an instant green blip then goes High DBZ, instantly red in the next 5 minute frame, lasts that way about 40 minutes, then goes to instantly low DBZ in a 5 minute frame and now spreading out in all directions from relatively the same original location. Some great observations: Radar sensitivity problems, Chaff, possible no-fly zone (someone translate the NOTAM). Something to ponder.

Not a no fly notice, a notice that they're operating UAVs within 6 nautical miles of Cannon AFB, in Class D airspace, below 9,000 feet. Class D is generally within about 4 miles of an airport with a control tower, but no scheduled operations. They're going to be operating between there, and the R5104 airspace starting August 9th, and going until November 4th.

Probably Vikings or Shadows being tested.

Thank you Zaph.
It does not look like this could be connected with the subject, but I guess ya never know.

This is most likely 27th SOG doing a chaff drop.
