The United States is reportedly mulling over increasing the bounty on the head of Osama bin Laden to $50,000,000 dollars. The increase is part of a renewed effort into capturing the terrorist leader. Thus far, the $25 million dollar bounty has failed to lead to his capture. The decision to raise the bounty will be left to incoming Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As part of an intensified effort to capture terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, the State Department is considering doubling the bounty on his head to $50 million, State Department officials said Monday.

Legislation passed in November by Congress as part of the appropriations bill allowed the State Department to double the current $25 million reward for information leading to bin Laden's capture, under the Rewards for Justice Program.

The program seeks to prevent acts of terrorism against the United States. It pays rewards for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of terrorists attempting to commit or committing acts against U.S. interests.

The bounties have done little except in the case of Saddam's sons. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has seen his bounty raised from 10 to 25 million. What I think people fail to grasp is that these men are surrounded by fanatics and are a poor choice for this level of bribery or rewards in this manner.. These people are motivated by religious ideology and not money.
