British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw plans today to inform new US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice not to expect British support if the US decides to invade Iran. Dr Rice recently described Iran as an 'outpost of tyranny' and it is believed that US agents are already operating covertly in the country seeking out possible targets.

JACK Straw will today tell new US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice that Britain will not back an American invasion of Iran.

Tensions between the US and Iran are high after vice-president Dick Cheney said it was "top of the list" of countries considered trouble spots by the Bush administration.

In his dossier, Mr Straw makes the case for negotiating with Iran's ayatollahs to curb their nuclear ambitions.

It is a relief that the Blair Government, having supported the immoral invasion of Iraq has backed down to public opinion with regards any further US incursions in the Middle East.

After the unexpected refusal of the British people to support George Bush's war in Iraq, Tony Blair has obviously realised that to drag Britain into another Bush-led war would be committing political suicide. This is particularly so since no Weapons of Mass Destruction have been discovered since the ousting of Saddam Hussein.

Jack Straw's message to the US Secretary of State is a welcome one as far as I am concerned.
