FYI, NO Republicans voted "YES" on the final vote to pass the Affordable Care Act. The Democrats own this piece of crap, lock stock and barrel.

The GOP owns the failure. They have done nothing but stage go no where repeals instead of working to fix problems. Never once offered another plan to replace. Just non-stop repeal failure after failure.

The GOP WILL own this junk car on January 20th. Hopefully, they'll push it over the cliff. Then open the garage door and roll out the new set of wheels.

Nope they have owned it since the 2010 election when they did nothing but well nothing.

Nah.... just go with this:

Self Pay Patients

Much cheaper than paying the ridiculous premiums to end up in crappy high deductible plan.

SelfPayPatient.com should identify medical providers that allow patients to set up re-payment plans. For most people, paying $10,000 to +$100,000 at the time of treatment, isn't financially feasible.

I have found it is industry standard where I live to automatically put people on payment plans. I have been offered plans for stuff as little $200 to 800, so I know if there were a major expense, I'd be OK with paying some down and asking to be billed monthly. My spouse, insured, also receives bills in the mail for anything that's not covered and his office too will accept payments towards the balance and don't demand everything right away.

Thanks again for related your personal experience(s), Ameilia. Those payment arrangements are usually within one's budget for relatively small medical expenses. It's when you get into the $50,000 to $200,000 range where the monthly payment is the size of a mortgage payment.

Expenses that high make people wish that they had at least a health insurance plan with catastrophic protection. Before ObamaCare, you could get a plan with $7 million in protection and a $25,000 deductible. The cost was $100 to $150 per month. It's easier to pay off $25,000 than it is anything over $25,000.

Unfortunately, ObamaCare made those catastrophic protection plans illegal. If the Trump administration makes them legal again, millions of Americans will gladly trade in their $700 a month Obamacare plan for a catastrophic plan that costs 70% less.

Of the 12.2 million people who enrolled in ObamaCare for 2017, only 4 million were first-time signups. 10 million utilized fellow Americans to help lower their premium.

www.cnbc.com...

Past experience indicates that 15-20% of the 4 million will cancel their coverage before the end of this year, for one reason or another.

What most people don't realize is the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) was designed to be "phased in" over a 10 year period.

The next burden will be placed on America's back on May 5, 2017.

""Food chains like pizza retailers are warning that an Obamacare regulation set to kick in on May 5 will overwhelm customers, raise prices and bankrupt businesses.

A costly and burdensome 400-page regulation in the Affordable Care Act (Section 4205) is set to go into effect on May 5 requiring any “restaurant” with 20 or more locations to post in-store menu boards with separate nutrition information for every food item and combination served.

The regulation would ensnare not only traditional sit-down restaurants, but also other businesses that sell food, such as:
Pizza companies,
Convenience stores,
Microbreweries, and
Movie theaters.

Businesses like Domino’s pizza would potentially have to display menu listings for millions of permutations of their offerings. The American Pizza Community (APC), which represents pizza companies like Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Dominos, as well as smaller franchises, explains....""

Those who say that Health Insurance Companies are making tons of profit, thanks to ObamaCare are flat-out wrong.

Take United Healthcare insurance company for instance. Today they announced that profits are soaring, now that the company has withdrawn from almost every ObamaCare market in the country.

Health Insurance companies would love to see ObamaCare be repealed.

The few health insurance companies that are planning to hang-tough and offer ObamaCare Individual/Family plans in 2018, are hiking rates double-digit again. The average increase in premium will be over 15%. And the deductible out-of-pocket per-person will increase from $7,150 to $7,350.

Desperate liberal publications are proclaiming that, "ObamaCare is Stabilizing! Only Trump can kill it."

lancasteronline.com... tml

"Stabilizing" is relevant. With premiums increasing double-digit again in 2018 and some areas of the country having only 1 health insurance company, or none at all, what good is being stable, but in a coma?

Some here have hit on aspects of solution individually.

Self pay, routine care.
Catastrophic policies for large events.
Cost control at provider supplier end.

Here's a link where comprehensive detail is found both in problem and solutions.

Market-ticker.org

No major new laws required for Heathcare, no congressional meddling as laws already exist = no lobbying by industry to dilute or gain advantage.

The alternative is national bankruptcy on visible horizon which completely negates politics, partisanship and particularly ideals - none of those will matter at that point.

Insurance is NOT healthcare, repeat after me, insurance is not heathcare.

Wake up folks!

Even with a 105% average premium increase for ObamaCare plans since 2013, the companies lost so much money that most of them have now abandoned ObamaCare exchanges all-together.

""The cost of an individual ObamaCare policy has increased by an average 105 percent from 2013 to 2017 in all 39 states that have used the federal exchange, the Trump administration said Tuesday.

A senior Health and Human Services official said the findings are significant because they look at the increases from the time key ObamaCare provisions took effect, compared to most year-to-year studies that fail to show the 2010 law’s “true effect.”

The average monthly premiums increased from $224 in 2013 to $476 in 2017, according to the report. The HHS official said the cost doubled in 20 of the states and tripled in three of them.

Alabama had the biggest four-year increase, 223 percent, from $178 to $397, the report showed.""
