Only if person is choosing to use it as a negative.

Many Rednecks are proud of who they are and their heritage.

Can you tell me ANY of racial slur that you would make this same argument about? How about the N word? How about wetback?

Old Broad

Ok, that's gender and ageism.

Old White Broad

no
simply do not defend the use of ethnic slurs

You've taken this issue up with long-time ATS user "The Redneck" then?

If not, why not?

Coincidentally one of the most intelligent people I've talked to. Sorta blows that "slur" thing out of the water, huh?

The entire point is if it's self proclaimed it's different. Deflect more.

Which one? Redneck?

I have called myself a redneck before with pride. I graduated from a high school that has "The Rebel" as our mascot.

(Yes, it's a Confederate soldier carrying a Confederate flag.)

Or did you mean Queer or the n-word?

Whatever keeps your righteous indignation over a nonissue cooking.

Anyway,

I'm pretty sure the Trump supporters who consider themselves Rednecks - - use it with pride.

So if Hillary calls you Rednecks it means nothing? And if Trump does too? Or what if Trump calls Hillary a Redneck? Then what? You think it has some sort of 'universal' implication?

Wouldn't bother me. Canuck would be more accurate though.

Or what if Trump calls Hillary a Redneck? Then what?

She IS from the south so I can see that.

You seem to be ignoring what others, including rednecks, say. There is no implication.

I haven't looked, but I would bet the History of Redneck, is a bureaucrat, negatively commenting about rural white people. From the sun beating down on their neck, and depicting them as 'mere farmers'. Despite the definition.

I could be wrong, it could have been some local Patriotic PR... Right?

It's a censored word here. Type it in and you'll get "N-word".

Am I missing something?

Didn't Bill Clinton call HIMSELF a redneck?

My god ... slow news day?

Bill said that Trump's base is mostly RedNecks. That's all Trump supporters. He has millions and millions of us who live north of whatever divides North/South in this country.

Northern Trump supporters are trans-necks!

just get the beaten up nascar cap and accept it!

You're thinking of the hipsters up here. Now that you mention it, I have been wondering when the hipster crowd will start supporting Trump "ironically". I think Trump might have the hipster vote.

You know what? It's a fair question.

Aside from the fact of the ATS filter ... I don't use that word because I was raised in a household that taught me it was a rude thing to say. I have personally witnessed that word being screamed at Black people in anger, and I have seen the literal pain it causes.

I don't use the word Queer because I personally think it's silly. I haven't used redneck in some time, but when I did, it wasn't a "racial epithet."

Now, dance on those bones if you can, friend.
