A group formed by the late President Richard Nixon in 1972, predicted and foretold of the danger of dirty bombs as well as airline missile attack. Almost three decades before the events of September 11, the group has identified these threads and had developed plans to protect the country against them. The group composed of such notables as Henry Kissinger and a young Rudolph Giuliani.

story.news.yahoo.com
WASHINGTON - Nearly three decades before the Sept. 11 attacks, a high-level government panel developed plans to protect the nation against terrorist acts ranging from radiological "dirty bombs" to airline missile attacks, according to declassified documents obtained by The Associated Press.

"Unless governments take basic precautions, we will continue to stand at the edge of an awful abyss," Robert Kupperman, chief scientist for the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, wrote in a 1977 report that summarized nearly five years of work by the Cabinet Committee to Combat Terrorism.

The group was formed in September 1972 by President Nixon after Palestinian commandos slaughtered 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic Games The committee involved people as diverse as Henry Kissinger to a young Rudolph Giuliani, the once-secret documents show.

Its amazing that the government was concerned enough to develop this group yet the question remains, did any of their recommendations see the light of day? More likely, they gathered dust in some Pentagon or State Department. It also shows that Giuliani has been "connected" for some time. Funny how he spent some time researching this in the 70's only to be a victim of it in 2001

"Those who are don't know they history are deemed to repeat it." Someone said, I just don't remember who.

The main reason, I think, the entire thing was the shock was because they hijacked four passenger planes without major resistance, except the last one that went down in Pennyslvania.

I heard that planes crashing into buildings was already made into a movie, long before 2001.

That's quite interesting..

Any government groups formed at present to assess future threats? Maybe we should see a list, we'll know the future then.

And surfup -

That quote.. doesn't.. make any sense. Maybe you need to rethink it?

I've heard one,

"Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it" - Said by someone along the lines of Churchill. I'm not sure though - yours is like mine, but, well, could you clarify that?

-- I just checked, the one I quoted came from George Santayana, the early 20th century philosopher.

33-year old news about another corrupt government of the day acting after the horse had bolted!

The lessons of how Hitler came to power are just a little older, but equally relevant to anyone who is paying attention.

Escape From New York.

Pretty eerie actually. The Socialist Worker's Party hijacks Air Force One, with President Donald Pleasence on board, and crashes it into a hirise office building. Snake Pliskin then has to land a glider onto the roof of the Twin Towers and get him out.

John Carpenter is pretty spooky with his predictions of near future social conditions.

Escape From L.A. is about preventing World War III between the World, and a newly conservative, and quickly fascist America. An America where President Cliff Robertson wins the election because of his Evangelical Christian faith, and his promise to Red State America to wipe out Blue State Liberalism. Then an earthquake wipes out California, and it's seen as a sign for his Mandate from God to continue his work. Funnier still, the state run propaganda news network (Fox News incarnate) televises live executions of the undesirables.

Best line in the film, "Hey Mr. President, I hear you're having some domestic problems".

The special effects are dodgy at times, and the film feels bloated at points, taking too many ques from the original. But as social commentary, it's absoltuely shocking to look back at now, nearly ten years later.

Basically, the Land of the Free can't coexist on the same level as restrictive Conservative Christianity, unless one of them fundementally bends to suit the other. In the film, Conservative Christianity become the more powerful of the two, and the Land of the Free became the Orwellian Land of Rules, Restrictions, Edicts and Judgements.

Hmm the horse had not bolted just yet now
At anyrate this type of historical document has value often not from the words or opinions expressed (Although in this one they do) but it also gives an insight into the goings on and the thought processes of the day.

It is also interesting to see names like Rudolf that you would not expect to toherwise see as part of the committie and makes it all the more interesting ih his attempts to push himslef as the insider;s outsider as it were.

Another analogy from a movie..... It seems that it is en vogue these days to do so.... and many people seem to think that sci-fi movies/games portray what is happening in the real world.....

Well, I have seen my share of movies also, and even though I know there is a difference between movies and real life, I will also use a movie as an analogy of what is happening right now in the world....

But before I make the analogy, i find it interesting that in the movie "Escape from New York" that it is the "worker's party (which is the communist party) the one trying to "save the world from the evil government".....
Like "all communist countries" are good and excellent towards their own people and others right?......

Anyways, let me get back to the analogy.....

I am sure a lot of people in here have seen the two movies of the X-MEN....
According to the movies, and even the comic books, there are two kinds of mutants. There are those who think there is a war brewing with the humans and the governments in the world, including the US, and these mutants (lefties) would use anything in trying to instigate this war between mutants and humans, including governments such as the US.... this would be the extreme lefties....

But there are also those mutants that think that mutants and humans/governments such as the US can co-exist if they work together....this would be not only Republicans but all those people that still don't believe that a war between lefties and conservatives is necessary, that the US might have some problems but this don't mean we must have another war with the governments to make those extreme lefties happy....

In the X-Men, those mutants that are working on making this war and are also instigating other mutants to unite and wage this war, are the bad guys...while the mutants that want to co-operate and know it is possible for the governments, the humans and the mutants to co-exist are the good guys. Now, even the good mutants have to fight even in wars against those that want to destroy the way of life and governments such as the US.....

I just can't believe that I have to use a science-fiction movie as an analogy to portray what many lefties are doing....but well, it seems many respond to this rather than look at the evidence in the real world....

Well, considering my point was John Carpenter's downright bizarre ability for prediciting political climate change through film, I think you brazenly missed my point completely. Which has to be a hard thing to do, so you really must have worked at.

Let me quess, you're more of checkers guy than a chess guy, eh?

Considering Escape From New York was filmed in 1983, in the final stages of the Cold War, yet very early in Reagan's new America, I find it strange that you percieve that point from the film when it was clearly the opposite. The USSR and the Socialist People's Party were very clearly the bad guys, and that's why they try to hijack and kill Donald Pleasence.

As for your other points, I really have no idea what you're talking about, because I don't speak code. I didn't bring sherpa guide with me, so I can't really communicate with you effectively.
