Well apparently there was one fatality in Port St. Lucie, FL. It was a 58 year old woman who had a heart attack.

Then, 911 dispatch told her that first responders could not get to her. I think the EMTs and first responders had the night off to tell you the truth.

That's probably why they never made it to her. They were all at the annual 'company hurricane party.'

I knew it wasn't going to be devastating the moment I saw the words THIS STORM WILL KILL YOU on the bottom of my screen.

Melbourne checking in. Hurricane is past now, just a bit more wind.
Lost power for about 7 hours, came on this morning, was shocked. I was expecting weeks (12 years ago we lost it for weeks). So, super impressed there.
Also didn't die

Extent of the damage to my home, a couple alvacado trees are bent. will have to straighten them up tomorrow when I am less tired. I know hurricanes can be pretty nasty business, but the outragous panic isn't helping anyone when they come. most floridians are pretty good in understanding the severity and only get "brave" when they have a solid house and well boarded up windows.

Been through too many hurricanes and tropical storms to count in Houston and NOLA. The power outage is by far and away the most inconvenient thing. The scariest is the associated tornadoes.

Stay safe; you can tell your Floridian friends that Power Company crews are on the I-10 headed your way; showed them on the morning news this a.m. leaving San Antonio, headed to Florida.

In other news..............Gypsy roofing specialists are also on the way to help ya'll with your roofs. Well, really less with your roofs than to help relieve you of bulky wads of cash!

As well, the Red Cross emergency response teams are on their way and they're expected to be in place and set up to assist within the next 60 days. Volunteers with Catholic Relief Services, (who are presently beginning to set up their relief centers) will assist the Red Cross with their relief center set ups.

BTW, you can buy a $600.00 generator for $1,600.00 at a vendor on a vacant lot across the street from the boarded up Home Depot.

I'd also remind any of you Floridians who are riding the storm out to be sure to load up on any needed medications. The local Walgreens/CVS drug stores will be raided by looters in about 48 hours. That's the bad news. The good news is you'll be able to buy $600.00 Epipen for $200.00 at a black market dealer at your nearest Flea Market.

You might also want to check out the "specials" at your local Flea Market next week on Big Screen TV's, Home Entertainment systems and other high dollar items..........brand new, some still in the box!

Good luck; stay safe; happy hunting!

I just wanna point out the governor of Florida said "this storm will kill people" and a sheriff there said "if people don't evacuate we will need body bags".

So what is the purpose of the media? To make us feel warm and comfy?

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith went a little overboard in warning Florida residents to evacuate in preparation for Hurricane Matthew on Thursday.

“This moves 20 miles to the West, and you and everyone you know are dead,” he pronounced during a segment where he demonstrated the path of the Category 4 storm. “And your kids die too.”

The segment is going viral on social media, but didn’t completely capture Smith’s resigned doomsday predictions during coverage of the storm.

I've always thought Shepard Smith was bit of a renegade. I hope his prediction doesn't cause anyone any pain.

I know some will criticize this, but it is a sign that there's still free speech in the MSM. There is no way the comments above were part of any script.

Actually he has a long history of covering Hurricanes including Hurricane Katrina. He is justified making a statement like that considering the ignorant people who didn't think they should evacuate and are now in a full fledged category 3 hurricane.

800+ Lost there lives in Haiti this storm was nasty.

Maybe if someone had said those exact words before Katrina hit, then fewer people would have risked it. Maybe he wants to really emphasize how urgent evacuation is. Maybe nothing serious happens. Maybe everyone who stays behind dies. Maybe it doesn't matter because when everything is said and done he gave the warning with their best interest in mind.

In some cases, I think warnings like that are justified. There are people who, even when they know a deadly storm is bearing down on them, will stay right where they are. Every time there is a hurricane, people think "Meh, we survived the last one"....that was a Cat 1. Then a much bigger storm rolls in, people die and then blame the govt or weather service or any but the one who is actually at fault. Themselves.
I don't sit here and say "Meh" when there's a tornado warning. Just because one has not hit us this Summer, doesn't mean it won't next year.

I agree.

There was the time that F5 tornado hit OKC and they did have meteorologists on air literally telling people, "If you can't get underground, this will KILL you!"

And they were right, if you were in its path, it hoovered up everything. Just everything.

Does anyone have video of a storm of equal type and magnitude hitting an area like he said 20 miles inland so we can build a frame of reference?

He's a dork, I agree, but I heard similar comments on the Weather Channel videos last night. The Storm was described as very dangerous, one for the record books, and one that would kill people who didn't heed warnings. Cat 4 at hat point, and max sustained winds of 130mph. So, in this case, Shep was likely just repeating what he'd heard.
