If a shopkeeper pissed me off I'd just boycott the shop. I never minded walking a bit further to buy stuff somewhere else.

I'd even walk past the offender whilst carrying bags back from the rival store. When I got fed up with the village shop I got my groceries delivered from a supermarket. It was highly amusing to see their van parked in the street for all to see.

You already know not to trust these shopkeepers - what repackaged stuff might you have already bought from them? How many owners did that charger have before they tried to palm it off on you? Their politics are entirely beside the point.

Make the effort and shop elsewhere or is that going to just be a fantassy ?

agreed - if they support things like Rodrigo Duderte they maybe do not deserve my presence and money....
but then i´m probably just being silly. i also try to boycott things like Nestlé but i see how useless it is... maybe i have just some kind of german-angst-tunnel-reality going on right now and just need to rant it out... whatever - i still get upset about that kind of stuff so what? arrr! sorry ranting overrr!

oh - honestly i was more interested in ranting than in opinions about my rant. i admit that !

but now i´m curious - do you really support the Philippine president´s policies ? or what do you mean ?

I don't think the 'ass' part lies in his court. When you go to a store you can reasonably expect to find merchandise that is as advertised. It's thrift shops and Goodwill stores you find sketchy things with no warranty of serviceability implied or any expectations of reliability.... just so you know.

Sounds like they are extremely good-natured people...they chose to laugh at someone who walked into their establishment and insulted them. Most people would have reacted quite differently, but it sounds like they kept their cool despite your rude behavior. Good for them.

yeah i was wrong to assume that she would agree with me about president Duterte being a bad person and probably i was rude in saying that i do not like Duterte. agree with you... i´m usually not rude to anybody but sometimes i just say stuff openly ... bad habit of mine.
basically i was assuming that nobody could honestly support Dutertes behaviour but i was wrong.
not surprised ... just cooling down from my rant.
not going to write another rant here so soon... gah

Basically, you insulted them and on purpose. You knew they were from a different country-obviously lived a different life and raised differently-were you just picking for a fight? Not nice at all. Your mother should have taught you better manners-or you didn't listen. Respect others-or if you don't respect them- then at least stay away and don't purposely insult them. Just mean.

Take the shopkeeper. You had a chance to have an expansive conversation, maybe even learn something. Instead, you chose to insult them and shout. You didn't really want an opinion then and it doesn't sound like you want one now.

No, I do not support him. But not everyone shares my view. You liken him to Hitler (which is a terrible comparison BTW), so you surely understand that he is well liked by many. Much in the same way Germany loved Hitler in his time.

Are you under the impression your shopkeeper is some kind of pseudo-nazi?

My point is, you tried to take the moral high ground with this person and ended up scurrying away with your tail between your legs because you can't tolerate a differing opinion.

Sounds like you want reassurance that you were the bigger man, but you came off as really childish.

Just MY opinion.

well Duterte compared himself to Hitler just a few days ago. so there is that...

you know- i was ranting last night and it was an error to do it. i was hot-headed and dumb.
okay ? that´s why it is called rant.

i admitted my faulty behavior already two times above - i was an idiot to come here and write.

life goes on.

There's no harm in having a rant - the point of one is to make you feel better, not worse.

Shop keepers / assistants can be the bane of a person's life with their snotty attitudes. As I suggested in my previous post it's best to just avoid them if you can.

Cheer up, it's not like they're neighbours or people you have to socialise with in future. Draw a line under this and focus instead on online shopping

hey thanks. this rant really made me feel worse...lol
i will avoid that shop.

in this city almost all traditional little groceries are gone - replaced by overpriced convenient stores run 99% by Bangladesh and Pakistani immigrants. now i do not blame them for coming to Portugal seeking a better life - also the government gives them tax-advantages. most of them are very friendly and i have made some friendships with Bangladeshis over the years. i use to talk to people in a friendly and open manner and i´m interested what kind of political views they have.
now i should probably know that sadly Hitler and fascism isn´t always seen as a bad thing in those countries - but each time someone tells me that Hitler was doing good i can´t help to feel offended.

sometimes i can smirk it off and let it be but sometimes i just get angry.
not defending myself - i would very much like to be able to handle this kind of situations better.

online-shopping ? not a bad idea at all.
