(CNN)Shimon Peres, the Israeli elder statesman who shared a Nobel Prize for forging a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, has died. He served as a constant force for generations in Israeli politics.

CNN

The 93-year-old died after suffering a massive stroke two weeks ago. He was reported to be making progress but doctors said he took a turn for the worse Tuesday.

Peres retired from public office in 2014 after the end of his seven-year term as President. In Israeli politics for more than half a century, he held virtually every position in Cabinet, from minister of defense to Prime Minister, a position he held three times.

One of the longest serving politicians in Israel's history and held many cabinet positions.

The target of both hate and love, he always suported a Two State Solution.

2 August 1923 – 28 September 2016) was a Polish-born Israeli statesman. He was the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. Peres served twice as the Prime Minister of Israel and twice as Interim Prime Minister, and he was a member of 12 cabinets in a political career spanning over 66 years.[1] Peres was elected to the Knesset in November 1959 and, except for a three-month-long hiatus in early 2006, served continuously until 2007, when he became President.

As a young man, Peres was once considered a "hawk."[50] He was a protégé of Ben-Gurion and Dayan and an early supporter of the West Bank settlers during the 1970s. However, after becoming the leader of his party his stance evolved. More recently he was seen as a dove, and a strong supporter of peace through economic cooperation. While still opposed, like all mainstream Israeli leaders in the 1970s and early 1980s, to talks with the PLO,

I hope this does not trigger muslim terrorists to attempt more bombings, knife intifadas, car intifadas or other "lone wolf" attacks than usual.

But of course ir probably will.

Stay vigilant.

If you see something, say something.

Why would it? Whenever I report an old person has died, someone has to come in with politics.

I don't know too much about this guy, i would have to look into him a bit. His life will be remembered for what he did do.

I do remember however Yitzhak Rabin and that he was a really good soul, loved by many before he was murdered, and Netanyahoo took his place.

We must think differently, look at things in a different way. Peace requires a world of new concepts, new definitions.
We do not celebrate the death of our enemies. You don't make peace with friends. You make it with very unsavory enemies. - Rabin

If a problem has no solution, it may not be a problem, but a fact - not to be solved, but to be coped with over time.
I worked with a group of people who argued day and night - professors, officials, the Minister of Finance - but there were decisions that I had to make. I was learning, as I did in the Ministry of Defense. I never knew, but I always learned. - Peres

And why is that?

That you probably think that this mans sad death will lead to more bombings, knife intifadas, car intifadas or other "lone wolf" attacks than usual...?

One has something against Muslims methinks as you have been brainwashed to believe so? (I may be wrong and if so I will eat my bacon sandwich and slug down a couple of pints of mead if you prove me wrong... will do it anyway...)

Shimon Peres, original name Shimon Perski (born August 16?, 1923

Polish-born Israeli statesman, who served as both prime minister (1984–86 and 1995–96) and president (2007–14) of Israel and as leader of the Israel Labour Party (1977–92, 1995–97, and 2003–05).

In 1993, in his role as Israeli foreign minister, Peres helped negotiate a peace accord with Yāsir ʿArafāt, chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), for which they, along with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1994.

Please clarify so that we can understand your stance better at it seems that you have only a one sided point of view when reading your comment.

You do realize that most Israelis and Palestinian people wish for peace??? (Apart from a sad minority of extreme militants on BOTH sides...)

The word "MUSLIM" and the doom porn that goes with scaremongers that use this word uncorrectly has become such an easy excuse to say or write nowadays when one can not debate a serious subject concerning Middle Eastern affairs... especially when half of the people typing this word on internet forums have never witnessed the horrors of being in those parts of the world...

Of course, NO-ONE is allowed to say "cough" JEWISH....

All I want to say on a personal tribute and as an atheist is the following :

Rest in peace dear sir and may your thoughts and actions be positive towards our future generation(s)...

Thank you for trying amist the corruption that the past couple of generations have witnessed and what some of our present generation are still trying to ruin for our kids and grandchildren no matter where we live throughout the world etc etc...

Thank you for at least having tried to find peace in this hate ridden world.... my sincerest condoleances to your loved ones...

Watch this video if you dare and I appreciate your comments afterwards :

Kindest respects

It's quite difficult not to talk about politics. Shimon Peres was the President of Israel after all.

You spinned it DA with your comment here : and now you are using very easy key words in order not to have an intellectual debate... maybe I am wrong... prove it...

Your words (copied and pasted in italics) :

I hope this does not trigger muslim terrorists to attempt more bombings, knife intifadas, car intifadas or other "lone wolf" attacks than usual. But of course ir probably will. Stay vigilant.

If you see something, say something.

Now, please can you answer my comments that I politely and respectfully responded to your original post.

Thank you.

Kindest respects

RIP

I have always enjoyed listening to this noble man's speeches. So intelligent, so well spoken. His accent also was very cool.

Well hell. The last sane voice in Israeli politics is gone.
He will be missed... by the world.

Peres was a great man, a true statesman and a tireless advocate for peace in the Middle East. The world will mourn his passing.

I wanted to star you for your comment but it looks as you got hit by the ban hammer so I can't.

Anyways, you are probably reading this anyway as a lurker so thank you and respect for your comment.

Somehow, or other, I managed to miss this bit of news... How? I'm not sure.

But my thoughts run pretty much along your lines. Don't know that he was the "last", but he was certainly among the loudest, and most influential.

Israel, and the rest of the ME, will miss his voice--maybe more than we'll ever know.
