African slavery was not chattel. Could a person who was a slave not grow into respectable stature within a tribe?

every race has had slavery throughout history! Some ppl choose to move forward and not carry a chip on their shoulder because of it. Judging by the age of the ppl in the video they weren't old enough to be slaves so y are you even bringing that up? Also, ppl shoot ppl and its usually not shoved down our throats. Always critical of the outside instead of looking from within and not helping the real problem. I'm not justifying all police shootings. I'm saying police need more training. But, if you think that training police better is going to resolve the issue your wrong. You cannot expect to be treated a certain way just because of the color of your skin. Um...there are still people alive today who survived the Holocaust. Im thinking that when the children of the people who survived the holocaust (as well as the children of the people who liberated the camps and were scarred by what they saw) die, it will be more similar. The children, I think, because they also bear the scars of their parents.

All I can say to this is that people can't dwell on historical atrocities. If we did, everyone one of us have an ancestors that has been slighted, and we would have constant grievances.

By the way, I am pretty sure most black people never even think about slavery. Most of the black people I know are to busy at their jobs to take time to think of that.

I understand where you are coming from. My family came to the US as poor farmers from Sweden, around 1900. They were rural farmers without much education (my grandfather had an 8th grade education). They had no part in slavery, and likely no part in oppression of anybody, although obviously it is entirely possible one or two of them were racist in some way or another, just as most families have some racists in them somewhere.

However, all of the time I have people project on to me about all of the horrific things "my ancestors did," such as the non-fact that "they had slaves." And saying "but my ancestors weren't even here during the American slave trade" isn't even considered a defense..

Count me in that group. I view blacks as unique as whites. Some are in blm, some are rioters, some protestors, most probably aren't associated with any of this.

But let's not pretend there isn't a double standard here. If a group of whites had attacked a black man like in this vifeo, this country would be on fire today.

The irony is that most of the people that are pushing this garbage narrative are progressive white people.
