The Trump campaign prodded the press to hold Clinton's feet to the fire over her lack of press conferences. For three weeks starting in late August, the campaign sent out daily email blasts to members of the media, counting the days since Clinton's last press conference in emails with subject lines starting "HIDING HILLARY: DAY" and followed by the number of days since the candidate's last press conference.

The media, whose jobs rely heavily on having access to question public figures, joined in. Even the Washington Post, a newspaper that's broken more Trump scandals than perhaps any other, put a widget on their site ticking off the days (accurate to the tenth of the day no less) since Hillary's last press conference.

Why wasn't the candidate making herself available for questions by holding press conferences?

On August 24th, the RNC got involved, launching a website entitled Hillary's Afraid of Questions with a picture of Hillary Clinton over a very large counter with bold white numbers on an alarming red background. The website skewers the candidate, accusing her dodging questions about the Clinton Foundation — questions that need to be answered!

Rest assured though — Donald Trump doesn't hide from press conferences, believe them!

Donald Trump on the other hand has held dozens of press conferences in 2016. Clearly one candidate is afraid of answering questions. With multiple investigations, ethics scandals, and her inability to tell the truth constantly plaguing her campaign, it’s clear why Hillary would avoid the press

Powerful stuff. A candidate who doesn't give press conferences is afraid of answering questions about ethics scandals. Candidates who can't tell the truth avoid the press.

Only July 27th, Donald Trump held a news conference which he opened with a stark condemnation of Clinton and a pointed question to the members of the media:

"So, it's been 235 days since crooked Hillary Clinton has had a press conference. And you, as reporters who give her all of these glowing reports, should ask yourselves why."

That was the last press conference that Donald Trump held

With the first presidential debate days away and the election a mere 47 days from now, the stakes are high. The questions are becoming more urgent and fumbled answers harder to recover from. Clinton has come out of hiding. Despite the RNC not updating their website, she's held what? Three formal press conferences and a handful of informal pressers?

What is Trump suddenly so afraid of?

Maybe I should have put scare quotes around the word suddenly because as was predicted by many, Donald Trump still hasn't released his tax returns. There's no strategically scheduled foreign intervention from Julian Assange and Putin's Russian intelligence apparatus to provide fodder for the masses to question Trump. All we have are the investigations of a press that's been vilified by the egregiously anti-Freedom of the Press authoritarian in the making, Donald Trump, who has his supporters declaring the likes of Breitbart and Infowars — his campaign's official media apparatus and a delusional sycophant cashing in on clickbait and sucking up for a job — as the only trustworthy media outlets.

And now, as the press is uncovering scandals daily...

Trump is hiding from the questions.

How convenient. What a show of "strength."

292 days, but whose counting.

I think many people know why Hillary is not taking open questions.

She simply is not able to answer for the proven lies she has told and continues to tell.

Everything Hillary answers is 100% scripted and 100% controlled by her operatives.

As for Trump, who knows what he's afraid of.

Just take a look at "press conferences." What are they like? A barely contained brawl of adult journalists behaving like children, yelling over each other, all vying for attention like chicks waiting for a handout from mother hen. Every reporter there has a "Have you stopped beating your wife, yes or no?" question which they think is insightful and incisive, but is actually just an out-of-context baited ah of a question. They are really disgusting and I hate watching them. Journalists are no better than bloggers these days, who frequently outshine them. As very special snowflakes they want special attention.

Well that's wrong. Stars for you though. If I'm not mistaken her first formal press conference since she started giving them again was on Sept 8. Look it up.

I could spend the $8 to register a domain and 5 minutes throwing up a website that shows that Trump hasn't given a press conference in 500 days.

That wouldn't make it true.

Care to comment about why Trump is hiding out from the press? How about the hypocrisy of Trump and the RNC using it as an attack on Clinton and now that the stakes are up, he's not giving giving press conferences and she is?

Just inane deflection?

All she does is answer scripted questions. That's not a press conference. Go listen to an NFL coach take questions on Monday morning. Those are press conferences. They never know what is going to be asked. I have never seen her give a real press conference.

And now so is everything that Trump says. He's done not being scripted and controlled by operatives. Bring out the teleprompters that were so "disqualifying" a year ago. Hide from the press to avoid answering the questions JUST LIKE he was accusing his opponent of doing up until about 2 weeks ago.

As for Trump, who knows what he's afraid of.

Exactly. We're not allowed to know. Trump correctness has run amok. Questions will not be tolerated! Join the herd or fall beneath the hooves!

Here's the Sept 8th so called press conference.

Pretty funny. Who the "reporters" were well hidden. Questions loaded and well scripted.

Hillary Clinton full press conference on the Tarmac 9/8/16

She's giving interviews. She's holding press conferences. Trump stopped press conferences almost two months ago as he simultaneously and in coordination with the GOP, launched attacks on Clinton for doing the same thing.

Care to comment on what might be behind Trump's hypocrisy? Why he's so afraid of answering questions? What questions he might be avoiding? What he's hiding in his taxes maybe?

Why it is that so many people are so intently avoiding holding Trump up to any sort of scrutiny?

Why not let it all come out and let the chips fall where they may? I can understand Trump's self-serving motivations but what motivates all these others to maintain their own ignorance?

So let me get this straight so I understand correctly. Hillary has dodged press conferences for well over 200 days plus, and Trump has "dodged" press conferences for less than a quarter of that time, and this is good for Hillary and bad for Trump how exactly?

Is stupid in the same way as King Kong vs. Godzilla is stupid. To make Kong win you have to ignore almost everything that defined Kong so that the two are on equal ground.

Kong was at best originally a 50' tall gorilla that fought dinosaurs and giant snakes, climbed buildings, and was killed by biplanes.

Godzilla was a 200' tall lizard that fought giant monsters from space, mecha versions of herself with advanced weaponry, and PUSHED buildings down and walked through them, Godzilla ate weapons of mass destruction for breakfast and even when finally dissolved to nothing more than bone and sinew eventually regenerated and came back, not to mention Godzilla had a breath weapon that was itself a weapon of mass destruction.

To make the fight happen, Kong was increased to the same size as Godzilla, and Godzilla's super regeneration was ignored and in the end Kong won despite that the original comparison from how they were defined makes this entire concept ludicrous. Oh and apparently they're doing Kong vs. Godzilla again, also by the US and thus likely to have the same ludicrous alteration and results.

The point being, the numbers are about the same, 50+ vs. 200+ and somehow you're trying to make the 50' Gorilla that is Trump into a 200' Lizard with super powers that is Hillary and then paint Trump as the winner.

Clearly to any reasonable person this is absurd, when it comes to dodging press conferences Hillary is clearly the queen of all monsters.

No. If it's "dodging press conferences" to "avoid answering questions" when Clinton does it — a was made a very very large deal by the Trump campaign and the GOP — then doesn't the same thing apply to Trump?

Simple question.

If it's bad for one, it's bad for both correct? Hard to argue that.

So why is Donald Trump doing exactly what he JUST made a very big deal about Clinton doing? Why is he doing it the last couple months during the most critical part of the race and as questions about his own scandals are popping up daily?

That was a very elaborate apology though even if it was misguided and utterly misrepresented my own arguments.

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of this?

Its pretty much proven that online arguing has zero chance of changing opinions or votes. If "getting the message out" isn't the purpose....what, exactly, is the purpose? To goad people with a differing political opinion? Some sort of daily affirmation? Obsession?

When I click on a political thread i get visions of opening a door to find a bunch of people cutting out their own entrails, and trying to make a rational explanation as to why, with several actually getting angry over how obviously rational it all is.

That's not the point.

If she happens to win the election, how can anyone expect any transparency from a woman whose actions say that she does not give a f##c about answering to the American people?

This, among every other thing, just goes to show she does not answer to you guys. She answers to those whose pockets are deep enough.

And, as far as the op, disgusting click bait thread. Nothing new

The two aren't anywhere near comparable yet. It's how obscenely long Hillary went that's the deal.

Actually maybe you're right. When exactly did people start complaining about Hillary dodging press conferences. If it was before she hit the number Trump is at now, I'll concede there may be a bit of a double standard here. If it's well after where Trump is now, however, you have no leg to stand on.

Obviously candidates are going to go stretches of time without press conferences. There's a point where it becomes excessive however. What exactly was the precedent Hillary set where it's suddenly time to start calling her out on it?

If it's at or before where Trump is now, I will concede your point. As that means it was a problem for her when she was still growing like Trump is now. Maybe you're right maybe Hillary has just grown and gotten bigger since the actual problem began. Find out when Hillary started being the media dodging terror and we find the established precedent she's being held to, so we can hold Trump to the same standards.
