Awesome thread, I have not seen most of these...many appear difficult to explain

This one made me laugh though:

Obama head

The teeth on the Totem Head look like they have been poorly photoshopped. Just my honest opinion. The Obama head.. the photo looked pretty legit but I'm not so sure, if it came right from the NASA site I would feel better about it

That is just mean, but on the other hand there will be some claim's he was born there.

I remember looking into the mermaid. I can't remember how small it was but the scale of the picture made the item tiny in real life. Still cool, but much less amazing when put in perspective.

Can you post specific links to original images from NASA ?

Some of those are probably just pareidolia effects of rocks, but ones like the totem you can't use pareidolia as an excuse, likewise with the martian hut and fallen statue

The hieroglyph one is pretty good but too pixelated as with many images, would be nice to know a scale for their sizes too

Look's like a polynesian idol, if that one can be proven then it would as far as I am concerned be a genuine artifact of some kind as I can not see any pattern of weathering of mineral crystallization producing such a complex arrangement of shapes in one object.

So for me along with the Hut or Cairn, a strange pile of stone's all gathered and stacked on top of one another in an isolated location on a sandy expanse? it is the most intriguing of these object's, in fact more so than the Hut as it may simply be a weathered projection of a layer of gravel and stone from beneath the sand that is projected upward, still it is very intriguing and something a lot of people have wanted NASA to take another and a closer look at.

Not photoshopped... just JPG or photo stitching artifacts that someone enhanced with contrast, lighting, and color

Thanks for clarifying that - it would have been nice to know someone "colored it in" to make it darker

#3 in the video "Celtic Cross" is a mark made by the rover's drill. Very neat pics though!

Mostly all eroded rocks. Some are enhanced to make certain features pop...essentially exaggerating things to make it look like something it's not

10 - The Pharao = pareidolia

9 - Martian Obama = pareidolia
The colour image is made with three different photos, here's one of them.

If you click the "Back to Panoramic Camera Sol 620" you can see the others.

Has they also took a photo with the right camera we can get a 3D idea of what it really looks like through an animated GIF.

8 - The Mermaid = pareidolia
You can see one of the original photos here.

7 - The Mars hieroglyphs = pareidolia + wishful thinking
The original photo is this one.

6 - The Martian stone hut - wishful thinking (and a trick of perspective)
It's only one rock, 32 centimetres wide (according to AlgorimancerPG), not a pile of rocks.
Here's the original photo.

5 - The Martian stoneface = pareidolia + wishful thinking
Original.

4 - Dinosaur fossil = pareidolia
Original (one of the images that show it).

3 - The Celtic Cross = wishful thinking
Like EdwardDrake said, it's a mark left by the rover.
Original.

2 - The fallen statue = pareidolia
Original photo.

1 - The Martian totem head = mostly fake
In the original image there's no teeth, and much less a lower row of teeth.
The original photo (the source of Zarniwoop's image, shows it. Someone decided to get creative with the JPEG artefacts.
