The total amount spent on the current presidential election cycle has surpassed $1 billion.

I don't care who has paid out the most, that is irrelevant to the point.
The current system eliminates any chance of anyone but the big two winning an election. We need to cap the amount that can be spent.
Advertising and travel expenses can be high I understand but limiting the amount available will make them use the money wisely. Maybe have so much money for the primaries and then so much for the home stretch.

I probably have a better chance of bottling unicorn farts that stopping this madness.

What say you ats?

I entirely agree. We need to cap spending and we need to shorten the entire election season to 6 weeks before the election!

The spending on these elections is utterly obscene and I've conclluded that the more spent and the longer the campaign seasons are, the crummier the candidates have become.

The only winners in these elections are.....................the SIGN MAKERS!

Here in Australia, a federal election usually lasts for 6 weeks from start to finish.

This year we had an extra-long one: it ran for 8 weeks. Felt like forever.

Combined expenditure by the two major parties was ~$11 million.
