The fighting about a month..they got mountains,not flat like Iraq.

Ehh, in my honest opinion if the US decided to go to war with Iran, Russia would leave them hanging. Putin may have sugarkissed dreams of the USSR, but he's also not stupid.

Attitudes like his will just escalate tension. US destroyer rams IRGC patrol boat, IRGC retaliates by sinking the destroyer with cruise missiles. From then on the situation just spirals out of control.

Same with the South China Sea there. Tensions are extremely high, all it needs is one overly on edge ship crew (of either side I might add), a malfunctioning sensor reading and just like that you have a major incident that could end up in a major conflict.

It almost happened not too long ago between China and the Philippines. China, doing it's usual thing, decided they were going to let their fishing boats go into Philippine Naval territory because China claims it as their own. The Philippine Navy thought they were Chinese warships and were about to launch anti-ship missiles due to a lack of contact when the situation (thankfully) resolved itself. But think how that could've escalated.

With a caveat. If any nation intentionally harms America, they should be crushed. Without mercy.

This has always gone on. In '96 the Iranian patrol boat "Bayandor" "bumped" the USS Gettysburg in the NAG (Northern Arabian Gulf) while escorting the USS Enterprise. Also three Iranian patrol boats did a high speed runs towards the USS KItty Hawk while being escorted by USS Cowpens (my ship). We maneuvered a few times and they did turn away. It made for some good General Quarters training.

At the Strait of Hormuz territorial waters overlap with Iran, Oman and UAE, because it's so narrow. So inbound and outbound "lanes" have been designated for passage of ships. Both Oman and Iran usually initiate a challenge to ships passing through.

As for the the name, Iran calls it Persian Gulf. Virtually every one else, including the bordering Arab countries, call it the Arabian Gulf.

Iran also has elections next year. So they have to look tough to the populace.

Best thing is to look at the historic conflict there...

Russia wont get actively involved.

But they will funnel there lasted and best weapon systems in.

The s-400 and 500 anti air defences russia has could really damage America s main advantage of air support.

The latest incident seems to be a clear case of blatant provocation on the part of US forces.

On Sept. 10, a Navy P-8 Poseidon with a crew of nine and an EP-3 Eries with a crew of roughly 24, were flying a reconnaissance mission 13 miles off the coast of Iran, through the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, according to officials who call the boundary Iran’s “black line.”

Iran’s territorial waters—like all nations--extend 12 miles into the sea, according to international maritime law.

At some point during the flight, the Iranian military warned the two aircraft to change course or risk getting shot down.

The US military planes ignored the warning and continued flying in international airspace, although close to Iranian territory, the officials told Fox.

So, with a 12 mile territorial limit, they chose to deliberately fly close to it rather than at a safer distance.

“We wanted to test the Iranian reaction,” one US official told Fox News when asked why the US jets were flying close to Iran.

So they arrogantly admit this was a deliberate act engineered to get a response!

“It’s one thing to tell someone to get off your lawn, but we weren’t on their lawn,” the official continued. “Anytime you threaten to shoot someone down, it’s not considered professional.”

I think warning an intruder away is actually highly professional. But, it's Iran, so they have to act all indignant about it because, well, they are the good guys.......right?

It's a message to the Iranians as well as recon.You do that to see which radars Iran turns on so you know where to hit them in the future. You have to map out potential targets. The last time Iran's Revolutionary Guards acted stupid, it cost the Iranian Navy dearly. It wouldn't be any different today. Just being honest. Iran loses any engagement with the U.S.

No brother, Persian Gulf was named like that much long before a country named USA came into existence . just after 1960s and british colonialism, the Arab states of the said waters started to throw Pan-Arabism into the picture .

and the WHOLE WORLD expect some failed states along the PG and USN (not even US govt.) calls it by its true name . so it shows how childish you look right now .

Iran's elections take place on a 4 year span .

As for those brothers/sisters who claim that those are INTERNATIONAL WATERS with capital letters, well, they're not .

You do put excellent points across Haman. The place your country sits in is a little hot right now, indeed has been for fifty years. Kissinger a year or two noted that at some point someething will give and a military confrontation with Iran was looking unavoidable in the future with so much military tackle so close to each other. As your nation has escaped being flattened so far unlike so many of your neighbours I feel for Iran and the future of its people. Both sides need to back off a little before something does give.

Iran has just dispatched ships to fight the u.s. Navy off the Yemen Coast. I hope their beards get caught in the rocket launchers!
