I am a big fan of optical illusions and this one is pretty cool. Try it out!

How many dots can you see at one time?

metro.co.uk...

I can see 4 at one time when my eyes are fixated on one point of the image in a square formation. Looking at different parts of the image makes dots appear in new locations and disappear from previous locations.

I haven't come across that one before, pretty cool. If I let my eyes fall out of focus I could see 4 — mostling in a single horizontal line but sometimes in 4 in a square.

EDIT:

That was a normal viewing distance. If I moved in closer, I could see a 6 in a rectangle.

Funny though. This works like one of those 3D puzzles. Look just beyond the pic.
I see 8 across the middle line. Cool image. Looking again I see 24 total in the 3D perspective. 8 top, 8 middle and 8 bottom.

Pretty neat. Reminds me of a macular degeneration test at the eye doctor.

p.s. why is this in the grey area forum?

Yep.

I can now see twelve.

If you put your nose right up to your monitor, look for a second or two and then sit back to your normal viewing position, you'll see all twelve dots afterward... permanently.

Freaky !

It does seem like that.

I dunno, i was thinking health and wellness but i didnt know where else to put it lol. Looks like we got moved to general chit chat. Damnit, that was where i was going to put this thread originally too. Always trust the gut they say.

I think the real optical illusion of the thread is that you asked how many dots can be seen at one time...

and everybody is answering '12.'

Similar to how many words can you see at one time......when reading a book. You still have to visually absorb it....
scanning is acceptable.....and that's why people are saying twelve.

Because - when you read a paragraph, you see many words "at once" but you process them a few at a time.

E.G.
When you look at the screen for ATS, how many words do you see at once?
"Quantity" is approximated, but "comprehension" is something entirely different.

Twelve? That is what I see. First I saw the top four, then I saw the bottom four, then the four in the middle row. Now I can see them all at one time because I know they are there.
