PARIS (AFP) - Airbus is set to ink its first orders from Chinese airlines for five A380 superjumbo airplanes on January 28, according to French Transport Minister Gilles de Robien's schedule for the week of January 20-28 states.

"The signing of the contract between Airbus, China Southern and CASC (China Southern and Chinese Aviation) for the purchase of five A380s," it says for the date of Friday January 28.

At the official unveiling of the A380 on Tuesday, Airbus chief executive Noel Forgeard told a press conference that he expected to get an order for the airplane from a Chinese carrier in the coming months.

Although orders have flooded in for the A380, Airbus's success is seen as depending on whether it can interest China, one of the world's biggest operators.

So quick to condemn the United States for the war on Iraq, yet when $$$ are involved, the leaders of France and Germany, suck up to the Chinese communist government by standing at news conferences and taking about the injustice of the arms embargo. This was thier reward for being such puppets. The embargo imposed after the brutal suppression of the 1989 Pro Democracy is faltering because the likes of Chirac are more interested in selling planes than making a principled stand on human rights issues. Bravo, and vive la "EU Deal" or giant European jobs program that is Airbus.

Huh?
You're going on about Airbus sales to China?

Boeing doesn't seem to have a problem dealing with China.

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER
The Boeing Co. is set to deliver about 50 planes to Chinese carriers in 2005.

Just last week, China Eastern Airlines and Boeing announced a firm deal for six 737- 700s.

Boeing also has been hoping to secure an order for as many as 60 or more of its 7E7s from a group of Chinese airlines -- and order expected by early next year at the latest. But a person familiar with the order freeze in China said it is unlikely to affect the pending 7E7 order.

The 7E7s would not be delivered to China until 2008.

Ace,

You beat me to the punch! Only the stories that make the EU or France look bad are worth talking about apparently. Besides, back in 2002 (I think) Boeing sold a jumbo jet to China to be their version of Air Force One. China was pretty peeved when they discovered over 117 bugs on board. Considering how our foreign policy has been, I wouldn't blame them for looking elsewhere for some of their planes. Why are people concerned with China buying planes from France, when our own corporations are selling us out a day at a time??

*Cough Nice Strawman*

No, both companies sell planes to China, however, China made a point of purchasing a large amount of EU products after the German and Franch PM's did their dog an pony show and no doubt promised to open the flood gates of arms sales to the Chinese communist government. That is a big difference.
