The South would reduce Pyongyang 'to ashes' claims South Korean military official

The claim has been reported by the South's Yonhap news agency and comes after the North's 5th Nuclear test on Friday , the official said they would target Pyongyang districts thought to house the North's leadership first with "ballistic missiles and high-explosives shells".

Following the North’s latest test, the South Korean defense ministry had presented the "Korea Massive Punishment & Retaliation" (KMPR) to the national assembly. The operation is “aimed at wiping a certain section of Pyongyang completely off the map,” a military source told the South Korean news agency.
“Every Pyongyang district, particularly where the North Korean leadership is possibly hidden, will be completely destroyed by ballistic missiles and high-explosive shells as soon as the North shows any signs of using a nuclear weapon. In other words, the North’s capital city will be reduced to ashes and removed from the map,” the source told Yonhap.

The threat is obviously taking a leaf out of the North's rhetoric book but also shows the frustration of the government with the continuing escalation by the North of their Nuclear weapons program in the face of International condemnation , words are clearly not enough to deter Pyongyang's aspirations.
Pyongyang responded by saying the threat was "highly laughable".

Meanwhile the US special envoy has said the US will take unilateral measures along with Japan and the South.

“In addition to action in the Security Council, both the U.S. and Japan, together with the Republic of Korea [South Korea], will be looking at unilateral measures, as well as bilateral measures, as well as possible trilateral cooperation,” Sung said. Washington and Tokyo were considering “a full range of possibilities, in terms of additional unilateral sanctions that can be implemented,” the envoy said, adding that precise details of the sanctions are yet to be finalized.

With the increased magnitude of Friday's test ,which some experts put at 20 kilotonnes or more , the North has shown that only actions not words will deter them from their inevitable goal of having a Nuclear arsenal capable of threatening the security of the South and wider region , at some point patience will be lost in the face of such a treat and action will be taken to lance the boil.

So many flashpoints , so little hope for peaceful resolution.

If another Korean war starts.... the loss of life will make the first one look like a bunch of primitives having it out.

You have to wonder who is really running the show in the North ? I know China supposedly publicly condemned the latest test.. Privately who knows ?

I don't think this kind of response is advisable.. The north Korea leadership are unhinged psychopaths.. and using these tactics is only poking an angry bear with a stick.
Be like a snake, silent and patient.. first sign if danger just strike with deadly blow..

This is a game of shell's, not against the old soviet block but the newly militant and expansionist China, someone in the State's has finally realized that putting off restrictive measures or minimizing them so that corporate business can continue as usual is a very bad idea, cue North Korea being a proxy of China and backed by China VS the south backed by Japan and the US being a Proxy of the US.

This has a very real potential to escalate, in fact unless sufficient punitive and control measure is taken against the aggression of China in this as yet unignited but innevitable Proxy war then we will see a very genuine escalation to a major conflict that WILL make the Potential Korean conflict and small scale Cino/US conflict on the Korean Peninsular (even if it turn's nuclear) seem very small.

There is one get out of jail card left for China because they are idiot enough to think that the US is going to blink and back off and that they can continue to agressively expand in the area and that Card is to stop there action's and reign in there sacrificial goat lil kim perhaps even staging a coup while they dispose of him and so hide there own embarrassment or else there continued expansionism will turn into an Asian Centric WW3 with a very genuine probability of expanding in the west and China being joined by Russia which of course would then mean the EU and Britain as well as Australia, New Zealand and several south american nation's coming on side against the Cino/Russian pact.

Innevitable because as usual the aggressor nation's are being led by idiot's.

Under Obama, we have grown weak and China saw their chance. They know he will talk and talk and talk and....well, you get the point. He is an appeaser and negotiator, he doesn't have to stones to actually do anything,
He draws his "lines in the sand" and then just backs off when someone crosses it. Unless we get a leader who will call their bluff, it's going to be more of the same.

He has detonated nuclear weapons , that is one big deep line .

I don't think it's an issue of not having the stones more of understanding the reality of the involvement of China , they are the only country who can take serious action against the North.
China will not tolerate action that is not sanctioned by themselves and for internal reasons they are not willing to take meaningful action.

All eyes are on the North again , which is what they want.

Question I've always asked myself is, How is North Korea more advanced in Nuclear technology than Iran? You would think it was the opposite. Or is that what we are led to believe?

Iran is much further along the nuclear trail than many think. They have labs that they will not,, under any circumstance, let be inspected. They pick and choose what they will let be seen, all while swearing they have nothing to hide. I also believe they are sharing nuclear technology with other countries, including NK.

Because the North knows it will be leveled? Remember. Theyve spent YEARS and BILLIONS of $$$ building tunnels and underground infrastructure. That much we've learned from defectors.

We might level their above ground...but they are totally prepared to go into their underground in a heartbeat. We'd still have to deal with them.

And supposedly? They have nukes underground as well...so if they got bombed out by bunker bombs...the nukes supposedly are down there as well.

It a tough nut to crack when the nut is well...a nut.

Tunnels are good...when you actually see the attack coming. but i suspect that if the SOuth attacked it would be without warning and a majority of NK soldiers will be caught outside and die.

And supposedly have most of the buildings in Seoul targeted by artillery as well.I don't think they'd be any winners in this war.

The North is a puppet state to China. There will be no war. China likes the situation as it is and as such it will remain that way.

They would only be killing the populace not the selfish military.
They have bombs standing by for the underground stuff.
