We have Viva because my wife coupons, and we got about 50 billion packs of Viva paper towels for 34 cents or something ridiculous like that.

I find the cheaper ones tear easily and don't absorb as well. I use twice as much .
The 25¢ more per roll doesn't feel like a splurge when the paper towels last a week per roll instead of two days.
I feel like I save in the long run.
Plus house brands don't usually have coupons.

Ever since my wife started this coupon craze, we've been saving @300 a month on stuff. Our house looks like the backroom of a Costco warehouse.

when the wife and I travel, we don't leave town without a roll of paper towels in the luggage.

Earlier this summer we forgot to pack some. I came home from vacation with a 20pk of Viva, minus the roll we started using.

Lol!

I'm the same way, you just never know when you're going to need one.

The cost of paper towels is insane so I have zero brand loyalty. Right now though, Costco is winning, based on the price alone.

Forgot to say that my engineer husband did a test, unbeknownst to me. He had a spread sheet of square feet and brands, etc. And kept track of how much we used. He found no discernible difference in our use, regardless of "quality", So, that's why we go cheap. That and the fact that our friend works for Georgia Pacific, a PT manufacturer, and she told us that Wal Mart, the biggest retailer, dictates the price/quality across all brands, even store brands. Stupid Wal Mart.
