Starcraft. I also spent a lot of time with Chaos Legion.

Not sure if you could call them PC games, they're on other platforms, but I played the Parasite Eve games on PC. Great games.

For those who are fans of Elder Scrolls V Skyrim on PC, a new mod just came out called Enderal, which adds an entirely new story and continent to the game. Definitely worth checking out.

It doesn't add a continent to the game. It's a total conversion mod. New plot and universe.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Super Metroid (#Metroidvanias!)
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 7
The first three Arkham games (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins)
The Ezio Trilogy Assassin's Creed games
All the God of War games
Warcraft 2
Starcraft
World of Warcraft
Diablo (#AnythingByBlizzard)
Counterstrike
Portal 2

I tried to list genre defining games, and yes I believe that sequel games can be more genre defining than previous entries. Street Fighter is a prime example. Only hardcore fighting game enthusiasts have played the original and now how DRASTICALLY different it is from the formula that later games took.

Wow that's a lot of adventure games. Ever play the Space Quest and/or King's Quest games? Those were great! Especially the Space Quest games with how sarcastic they were.

I did play both series and I have them again, on multiple formats. (Still have working Commodore Amiga
as well large Steam/GOG library with many old games. ) Gog is great for those who don't like to be bothered figuring out DOSBox, as all games are set to work on WInXP + with installer and many great details including manuals & reference sheets.

I know, many games, and if I have to select one game - It would be Civ 2, with X-COm (UFO Enemy Unknown) as close second.

Just recently replayed whole game with use of OpenXcom - it requires original game to work, but makes game work very well on modern windows, with greatly improved graphics.
