It's not showing on USGS, but a whole bunch of us just woke up because of a freaking earthquake.

Really amazing. It felt like the dog was scratching and moving the whole bed. I got up, the dog wasn't in the room. Came out of the room -- Mr Wigs said "did the earthquake wake you up?"

He said the whole table here was shaking too, and he looked to see if it was the dog under the table.

Wild. Tornadoes are no surprise around here - but an earthquake certainly is.
New Madrid? Anyway. Just wanted to share.

We are up in Northern OK by Ponca City. It threw us around pretty good too. Preliminary reports are a 5.8 but I haven't seen an epicenter reported yet. Pics fell off our walls and stuff was breaking from falling off shelves. It woke us all up here too. Our poor kids were terrified. That's the biggest one we have felt here.

Felt it too, in central OK. Very violent shaking on 2-story house woke me up! It's the strongest one I've felt in quite some time.

Hope it is not a precursor for the 'big one' along the New Madrid.

Wouldn't want to redraw any maps.

Stay safe people.

Well no wonder! The epicenter was just 20 miles from here.

Yep - now it's all over twitter, FB, the news. St Louis, Dallas, Lincoln NE, that was a new experience for me, to be sure. I know they swarm down there by Tulsa/Ponca City - but I just hadn't ever felt one. Ev. Er.

I thought it might have been Yellowstone.....which would have meant it was the end for us.....

anyway - gooooooodd morning Midwest USA!

the one I felt at 7:06 was in Nevada......I'm in Dallas.....and the s waves were east west.....so I felt the Nevada quake from all that far away?

I'm about an hour away from KC at Whiteman AFB. Rattled some stuff around here too. Apparently this could be felt from Texas to Iowa/Nebraska. The New Madrid is awake!

Hurricanes we don't have here. But we do have "microbursts", super intense ice storms, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes. I just have never felt one before. Glad you are safe! I have fam and friends down in Florida.

This one seemed pretty strong north of Edmond, OK. I was a bit afraid.

Woke me up, but it felt worse than the M4.2 near my house two years ago.

Sometimes - not always - a major earthquake is preceded by a preliminary earthquake.
The first one is an indicator of a larger movement later on. Sort of like an aftershock but in reverse.
