The CEO has some interesting things to say about her product that has increased in price 400% in 10 years.

Price increases on lifesaving EpiPens have parents outraged — but the CEO of the company that makes them said no one's more frustrated than her, pointing to other players in an "outdated" health-care system.

I bet she is as frustrated as a parent who has to choose to not get new tires for the car or have a life saving drug for their child.

Wow, a 50% reduction in cost, just use the coupon. Almost like the bad publicity is bad enough for a lower price with a coupon. We have real power when we call these corporations out, but we have to stick together. Are they loosing money now?

The company is reducing the cost of EpiPens through the use of a savings card that will cover up to $300 for the EpiPen 2-Pak. Patients who were previously paying the full price for the EpiPen will have their out-of-pocket cost cut by 50 percent. Mylan also is doubling the eligibility for its patient assistance program

See it isn't EpiPens fault.

There is a system. I laid out that there are four or five hands that the product touches, and companies that it goes through before it ever gets to that patient at the counter. Everyone should be frustrated. I'm hoping that this is an inflection point for this country."

The 4 or 5 hands must not have long enough arms to grab all that sweet sweet money in Canada, the price is 112 $ a piece.

I just read that article. Astounding. Also, the President of Mylan and the Chief Commercial Officer received raises as well.

Surprise! This is the greedy and compassionless part of capitalism. Screw the consumer and take advantage of a captive market so they can make huge profits on the backs of human lives. It's simply disgusting! This isn't the only pharmaceutical, insurance or manufacturing company that has taken advantage of a product needed to save lives.

People can complain about corporate regulations, but we see corporate interests taking advantage of consumers time and time again. We saw what happened with predatory loans when regulations were removed from the banking industry.

there is another post on ATS, that shows that the CEO is the daughter of West Virginia-Democratic-Senator: Joe Manchin

He's the one that shot Obamacare with a gun when he was running for Senate, then has been one of its biggest fans since getting elected.

I wonder how many people died because they couldn't pay the increased costs? And as another poster pointed out, she just received a huge raise.

Is there a regulation for this? Oh, I suppose because Manchin is her dad, it was expected that trickle down economics would apply. Compassion.

Heather whatshername (the CEO) also has political ties, surprise!!

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is her father.

Wonder if there were any percs to that familial relationship

What isn't said is that government reimburses Mylan for every coupon. Then people like her hire media agents to decry "socialized medicine". There's some things that private hands should have no control over, medicine is a huge one.

I've been seeing and reading this lady's interviews and comments during the last few days. It's shocking, really, that she can justify this with a straight face. She's shameless.

Her father is Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, though he doesn't serve on any committees relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.

However, years ago, there was a flow chart floating around these forums that showed how inbred politicians were with major corporations. With an open door between family members/former politicians and corporate top jobs, boards of directors or lobbying positions. This is why there is so little oversight. I wonder what an updated flow chart for today's corporate landscape would look like?
How many wives, kids, siblings or former politicians are in top level positions or even simply honorary but paid positions at corporations?

I would love to sit in on a board meeting. We have visions of professionalism and reasoned debate to serve the customer/patients.

I imagine, closer to the truth is:
first on the agenda is $, how much of an increase in profits did we capture (share holder)?

How is the price increases playing in the ignorant, stupid, idiot public?

Has there been any publicity bad enough for us to care?

Are there any potential law suits we have to be concerned with?

Oh what are we being served to eat in this meeting.

And finally anyone give a crap enough to think about improving this product for our valued customers/patients.

No meeting adjourned.

This bitch deserves legit karma.. She must know she cant spend the money in hell...

From the Fake MBA at WVU, to her dad being a Senator in that state, to Mylans biggest drug competitor (who makes a comparable) dealing with regulatory issues, essentially creating a monopoly for this bitch with a life saving drug, I just can't believe this lady has the gall to defend this price increase.. Maybe if your pay didn't go from $2 to $19 million, you wouldn't need to jack up these prices.. I'm okay with companies making profits, but this is plain greed and price gouging... Bitches like Heather Bresch, give capitalism a bad name...

But hey, isnt that what Capitalism is all about? Maximum profits and screw the rest. Thinking about those that you screw over makes a you socialist. Long live Capitalism!!!!!

... The above was written totally tongue-in-the-cheeck.

How many times have I read similar stories in the news lately? There is this AIDs drug, a CF drug, the Epipen all in a matter of a few months. The type of people behind this and other, similar stories, dont deserve to be called humans, rather predators, preying on the needs of others.

I think you are correct, and it isn't tongue in cheek.

The capitalist system works great for cars, toasters, shoes, carpet, ect. Then you have food, medicine, and a few life sustaining items, that in a perfect world, minus psychopaths, would work great. But as this story tells us these companies are begging to have their prices regulated. Like the electrical/gas company in Michigan is. If Michigan Consolidated gas company wants more $ for power, they need a real tangible reason.

Just a thought, but if you run a company that has a life-saving drug that's needed by millions, maybe the company should be a Not-For-Profit, so BS like this doesn't happen.. Insane reading this lady defend her actions. Deflecting away stating the "systems broken"... No Heather Bresch, you're broken, ethically/morally speaking...

I'm only 31, but I really am interested in cleaning up US politics... If I ran locally (working my way up), my biggest piece I'd want to get passed would be term limits at all levels of Govt.

the CEO was on CNBC this morning, and the host told her that the entire EPIPEN costs about 4 dollars to manufacture...5 years ago it sold for 60 dollars, and in the following years climbed about 100 dollars a year to 608 dollars this year....they can't stop themselves from being so greedy, even to the point that the government will step in and regulate....and then BIG PHARMA will bitch and moan about regulations hurting their business, and of course they will blame government overreach.....F them.

They are essentially forcing our hand to regulate their whole industry.. Either less patent protection for more competition or regulation.. has to be one or the other.

term limits will mean that you have new uninformed and inexperienced people shuttling in and out of congress every 2 years, which also means the people with the most experience and therefore knowledge, will be the unelected government bureaucrats who have no power to regulate....you need to concentrate on corporate lobbying and getting money out of politics as much as possible. there are many congress people that wish for the same thing due to the fact that they spend too much time fundraising for money, and not enough time on understanding and researching legislation before them...my own house member (jerry McNerney (D) Calif.) talks about this all the time, I have personally talked to him and he doesn't hold back on the foul language (in private of course) to describe this situation.
