"Do the Evolution" by Pearl Jam is my choice. It summed up my overall view of the world when I first heard it, and it still does. I think the music video compliments the song perfectly, and it adds a lot of meaning.

This

it always makes me cry.
Probably the most beauiful song ever.

Oh my friend loneliness, where have you been?
You left to the lure of the lover who left me alone
But now you come crawling back, and I'll let you in
And we'll slip back into grooves that we cut in ourselves long ago
But there must be a better half, somewhere out there
She lives a better life, a life that shares
Shares with a better man
The man who is there when she calls in the night
Who says "Hey, it's alright"
And oh my dear distance, I've met you before
Longing for a lover who's lost on a far distant shore
And oh my imperfections, are all that remain
And the days when I'd love you and I'd leave you, and you'd wish that I would stay
There must be a better half, somewhere out there
She lives a better life, a life that shares
Shares with a better man
The man who is there when she calls in the night
Who says "Hey, it's alright"
I know what she looks like, her face and skin, her smell and the rest
I know the feel of her soul, but God help me I just cannot find her address
I've how I've tried but now all that's left Is my old friend distance and sweet loneliness
There must be a better half, somewhere out there
She lives a better life, a life that shares
Shares with a better man
The man who is there when she calls in the night
Who says "Hey, it's alright" "Hey, it's alright" "Hey, it's alright"

Nice video. Ever see the film, The Wall, by Pink Floyd?

Or Brazil, Metropolis?

I used to love her, but I had to kill her.

She bitched so much, she drove me nuts, and I can still hear her complain.

"Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)"
George Harrison

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul

OM M M M M M M M M M M M M M
M M M My Lord . . .

PLEASE take hold of my hand, that
I might understand you

Won't you please
Oh won't you

This used to be my signature on ATS:

I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

Full lyrics:

Red and white, blue suede shoes, I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do?
Gimme five, I'm still alive, ain't no luck, I learned to duck.
Check my pulse, it don't change. Stay seventy-two come shine or rain.
Wave the flag, pop the bag, rock the boat, skin the goat.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band.
Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan.
Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues?
I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

Back to back chicken shack. Son of a gun, better change your act.
We're all confused, what's to lose?
You can call this song the United States blues.
Wave that flag, wave it wide and high.
Summertime done, come and gone, my, oh, my.

FANTASTIC song critical of blind patriotism.

My whole saturday and sunday too
I was thinking about ways not to lose
I lay down my weapons is what I've done
Too late to hide, feet too soft to run
But people say I'm the luckiest man
Yeah they say

Running is useless and fighting is foolish
You're not gonna win but still you're the luckiest man you're up against
And too many horses and mysterious forces
What you don't know is you are the luckiest man
You're the luckiest man

I done talked to the devil when he calls my name
But sometimes when I'm losing it all seems the same
And when I fall I'm back up again
Just to slip on the same mistakes and slide right back in
But people say I'm the luckiest man
Yeah they say,

Running is useless and fighting is foolish
You're not gonna win but still you're the luckiest man you're up against
And too many horses and mysterious forces
What you don't know is you are the luckiest man
You're the luckiest man

Try to keep my faith and keep my mind
Hate to lose either one when the whip cracks behind
And I can't help but mourning just a little each night
People say everything is gonna be alright
They say I'm the luckiest man
Yeah they say,

That running is useless and fighting is foolish
You're not gonna win but still you're the luckiest man you're up against
And too many horses and mysterious forces
What you don't know is you are the luckiest man
You're the luckiest man
You're the luckiest man

This song is sung VERY sarcastically. Everyone always tells the narrator that he's the luckiest guy in the world meanwhile the narrator is like, "really? My life is a mess. I keep making the same mistakes. I can't get out of my rut." But the world keeps telling him he is the luckiest man in the world. Even the song ends with the chorus drowning out the narrator saying he is the luckiest man in the world.

King Saul fell on his sword when it all went wrong
And Joseph's brothers sold him down the river for a song
And Sonny Liston rubbed some tiger balm into his glove
Some things you do for money
And some you do for love, love, love

Raskolnikov felt sick, but he couldn't say why
When he saw his face reflected in his victim's twinkling eye
Some things you'll do for money and some you'll do for fun
But the things you do for love
Are going to come back to you one by one

Love, love is going to lead you by the hand
Into a white and soundless place
Now we see things as in a mirror dimly
Then we shall see each other face to face

And way out in Seattle, young Kurt Cobain
Snuck out to the greenhouse, put a bullet in his brain
Snakes in the grass beneath our feet, rain in the clouds above
Some moments last forever
But some flare out with love, love, love

Self Bias Resistor by Fear Factory.

"Hypocrisy you can't believe
Machines of hate, a disease that infiltrates
Persist for resistance, resist their insolence
you are a dissident, burn away conformity!"

New Model Army - Great Expectations

When I was young I dreamed and dreamed
About all the things that I was going to be
A brave explorer holding court or a really famous astronaut
A handsome pop star on the screen or captain of the England team
They said "Son, it could all be yours, you just work hard and pay your dues
Don't be content with what you've got, there's always more that you can want
Everybody's on the make - that's what made this country great"

Ch: So all I wanted in the end
Was world domination and a whole lot of money to spend
Everything I touch, everything I see, fame and fortune, immortality
Well that's not much to ask, it's really not
It's not much to ask, just the same as anybody else

So welcome to the free for all, the smash and grab, the freeloaders ball
Where everything is here for us if we scream, shout, make a fuss
There's nothing that we can't afford with a poisoned tongue and a sharpened sword
Spoilt children in a row - no one dares to tell them "no"

Ch: So all I wanted in the end
Was world domination and a whole lot of money to spend
A little place to call my home, like a planet that was all my own
Well that's not much to ask, it's really not
It's not much to ask, just the same as anybody else
Just the same as anybody else

So in every heart there's a broken dream, a shattered cause, a might have been
In every eye there's a secret tear, in every heart there's a secret fear
That this is it, done, complete. Resign yourself to your defeat
The bitterness behind the show - that's where spoilt children go

From NewModelArmy.org: Lyrics

Actually any song on the list. They are my favoritest band in the whole wide world. They were writing poetry when U2 was writing about being a teenager. They had angst down before anybody heard of Seattle. Their music/lyrics evoke places I have never been but want to go--like the northern boarder between England and Scotland (the song, The Green and The Gray). I want to remember history ("November 1989, their dancing on the Berlin Wall tonight, I feel the flow of history, and have no part", Prison). I want pound my fist in the air and sing, "We are old, we are young, we are in this together, Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever! With pulses a raging and eyes full of wonder, kicking out behinds us again" the chorus to Vagabonds.

Did I mention they are my favoritest band ever?? If you have never heard of them, Original 20 is a good place to start as there is no bad song on that album. You want to jump in the deep end, you owe it to yourself to own and repeat play Thunder and Consolation and Impurity. Or you can start at the beginning with Vengeance: The Independence Story. Welcome to the family!

I did not. I saw Dark Star Orchestra recently though. Where did you see them at? I heard John Mayer is a good guitarist replacement for Jerry (as opposed to Trey from the farewell tour).

Mother please forgive them
For they know not what they do
Looking back in history's books
It seems it's nothing new
Oh, let my mother live

Heaven is for heroes
And hell is full of fools
Stupidity, no will to live
They're breaking God's own rules
Please let my mother live

Father of all creation
I think we're all going wrong
The path they're taking
Seems to be breaking
And it won't take too long
Children of the future
Watching empires fall
Madness, the cup they drink from
Self destruction, the toll

I had a vision, l saw the world burn
And the seas had turned red
The sun had fallen, the final curtain
In the land of the dead
Mother, please show the children
Before it's too late
To fight each other, there's no one winning
We must fight all the hate
