I don't actually have a problem with taking a harpoon to the beach - it makes more sense than taking one to the playground! I highly doubt the harpoon was for sunbathing purposes, much more likely for a bit of spear fishing.

As to the story itself, not really sure where i stand. The MSM have been in full spin mode so, at first hand, it may seem highly out of order. However, reading some French press reports, there does appear to be some (unwarranted) history between the locals and anyone Muslim over the last couple of years - the French press appears as flummoxed on this one as i feel!

Photographing someone's wife is out of order without permission. That said, we don't actually know whether that is the case or not. It could simply be that the tourist in question was photographing the panorama and happened to get a lady in a burkini in the same shot - which would be entirely accidental. Incidents like these usually turn out to have been sparked by a complete misunderstanding and i wouldn't be suprised if that were the case here.

The only site I read claiming they were armed is the anti-Islam site in the OP.

That's probably because it goes against the Marxist neo-liberal agenda to print anything negative about Islam. Is that the news you want me to bring? When I want dirt on the right, I go to the left. When I want dirt on the left, I go to the right. It's called balance.

You're an expert at bs hyperbole. No one is banning fashionable garb because they're getting dopamine hits for being a jerk. They're banning Muslim garb. And especially since these Muslim thugs decided to piss on everyone's day, the very next day the council slammed the gavel on their religious attire at the beach with a resounding FU for their behavior towards local residents.

The ban was imposed at a special council session on Sunday in Sisco amid tensions over the brawl, in which five people were hurt.

That's why! And on a Sunday even. They asked for it. Now if they want to come to the beach and play, they got to be naked too. Besides, you seem more concerned about what the instigators can wear than their behavior. Shame.

What the heck would be the problem, anyway?

No one can see who it is under all that stuff, right?

lol.

Because many women do not choose to wear it, but are forced to. It's a symbol of oppression.

I don't know where you are getting your information, but I watched the mayor be interviewed many times now, and he has been adamant that the law was passed to PROTECT the Muslims from the violence of the Corsican locals!
He repeats all the time that the locals have been violent and threatening for a while now, (he calls it a powder keg) and that he is afraid they cannot protect the muslims who live there, so it is best they not have any visible signs that might make them targets.

-And it was NOT a nude beach! a beach is a beach, and people can wear a bathing suit or not! The only ban that has happened is on "burkini's".

Sigh...

Bringing harpoons and machetes to the beach?

That's not typical beach wear/paraphernalia.

Having those items easily within reach on hand speaks volumes.

Yeah it speaks volumes about the intents and motives of whoever is saying/writing that. (it is false)

I believe the witnesses. The French don't get together like that for NO reason at all.

I believe them when they say the Muslims had weapons. It's their GD MO.

They may have.

But, I try not to jump into sensationalism.

Corsica is an island. In my experience islanders have kind of a bond and don't take to outsiders.

There must be a lot of tension there.

Okay , professor. Let's see the credentials to back that up.

They are known for this. You can get through as a tourist, but do not try to move there. Do not try to work there or open a business. Your home and business will most likely be blown to bits. I know a couple that moved there and opened a gas station. They had to rebuild it twice. The third time is was bombed they gave up and came back to the continent.
No need to be a professor to know the Corsicans are violent and refuse outsiders.

Ya, 'cause we know Muslims have never brought and used weapons on a beach.

I don't feel much of anything about it. I'm not a fan of all that violence and killing they do. I would not like to live in a place like that ( and certain parts of Italy) in which gang warfare and mafioso rule. For one, it is a problem for the economy....

But they have been able to keep their community closed and protected from modern society. Pigs and cows still roam where they want technology hasn't progressed much.

Whatever. Their choice. I feel nothing about it.

I'm at a southern CA beach.

It's not unusual at all for someone to have skin diving gear, including harpoon for "shore to ocean" spearfishing at the beach.

No law against it that I know of.

Credentials?

Do you see anything in that post but opinion?

Maybe you have better things to do with your time.

Did I mention machetes? NO! Why? Because I'm only speaking of harpoons.

You wanna talk machetes? Do it on your own, not in response to my statement on harpoons at the beach.

CA is not France. I don't know what the laws are in France.

Oh dear. If that had happened in the U.S. both sides would have had guns and it would have been a bloodbath.

I didn't know "burkini", so here is one. Is it just me, or does it look attractive? I don't see the French making fun of this at all.
