Starship Troopers - Worth Getting?

I've heard about the original novel Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein, i've been thinking of reading it, but i've only ever caught the end of somebodies opinion on the book.

Is it similar to the (crappy) film?

Is it worth reading?

Kick ass book...Heinlein was on the greats in sci-fi....I'd also pick up "Job: A COmedy of Justice" and "Time Enough for Love"...

Two other great sci-fi author's you'd like if you enjoy Heinlein are:

Phillip K Dick
Stanislaw Lem

The book is more a description of a style of government than a crappy movie. So it's your call, if you want to know more about the government touched on it Starship Troopers, get the book. If not, there's no point.

On a side note, the only reason that movie was so terrible was because of a horrible directory and bad actors. It could have been so much more.

Its arrived finally though and I've begun reading it

Finished reading it the other day and I must say it was a brilliant read.
If you ever get the chance give it a read its well worth it
