It's most bizarre to picture any of them trying to work any kind of construction sort of work during their teenage years. Something I think is important for boys to play at when they're transitioning into men. Games are a form of art - not all games mind you, before someone who thinks he's snarky comes in and asks for the artistic meaning of candy crush, but games are a medium for story telling. They can deliver all the same messages movies and books do but with even more poignance because they're interactive.

Anybody, and I mean anybody who thinks they have a right to tell people what stories they can or can't tell or how they can or can't tell them should be disregarded as a idiot.

I've been an avid gamer most of my life and I can only think of a few genres I can't play. I've played the most gruesome, the scariest and the most realistic games around and like many gamers I like a bit of role play and freedom in my games.

A lot of gamers have went whore hunting on GTA or kamikaze attacked US warships on numerous games depicting WWII, heck a call of duty game once had me interrogating a man with a mouthful of glass with my fist. Yet I have never done any of those things and I imagine very few gamers do, I imagine those tempted to do what they saw in a game could be easily influenced by anything in life and I also imagine they might have something mentally wrong with them.

Apart from the nasty things I've done in games I've also done good things especially when a game is detailed. One game in particular Sid Meiers Civilization franchise, I've led nations to triumph with peace and trade. Role playing doesn't have to be nasty... That being said I've also nuked the world as Gandhi though why not?

Nah, games are just an entertainment platform and just like all entertainment the possibility to educate exists, does this flaming idiot have any idea how many people have got into professions due to the influence of games? Professions like history, astronomy and construction... I dare say the positive influence outweighs the negative tenfold and more.

Continuing this line of reasoning. The fun police have been trying to eat into artistic hobbies forever. Before videos games it was Heavy Metal music. Before that it was Rock and Roll music. Before that it was Television.

But the biggest sources of bashing came from moralists - clergy, poets, and others who want decency. Many Catholic communities, even dioceses, barred couples from dancing so close in triple time when it became popular during the late 18th century and became widespread.

Living in a patriarchal society, it is nearly impossible to criticize a male-dominated past-time. The conventional wisdom is that "boys will be boys" and as such, they like violent things like video games, sports, and pornography.

The Google results for "do video games cause violent behavior" is a massive cluster-f--k. The first result cites a study that says "no", the second result says "yes", the third result says "no", the fourth result says "yes". People have their own pre-conceived ideas of what they think is happening, and will bookmark the sites that support their views, and criticize the sites that don't. This type of bias really holds a person back from looking objectively at both sides of the argument, especially if it involves something they do personally. No one likes to admit they have been doing something wrong for years, so they cling to evidence that validates their behavior. This helps people feel like they are not complete a--holes.

I personally believe violence in media, which can be presented as video games, movies, television shows, pornography, DO impact an individuals behavior. Of course it wont incite extreme changes like rape and shooting, but it can subtly influence you. source

If media didn't influence, then why do companies spend billions of dollars on advertisements? Clearly, images on screens DO impact people, even if it is slight. But everyone loves to think "oh, media doesn't influence ME, I'm different! I'm immune!", But you aren't immune. No one is.

For those who like violence in media/games, ask yourself. Why do you find the blood, gore, and the deaths of others entertaining? Why do you like watching those kinds of things? Because it isn't "real"? Well, the images look pretty darn real to me. Why do you like to fantasize about hurting others?

Because humans are naturaly violent, its in our genes, using games for apease that violence is only healthy in my opinion, be it a videogame, or sports. It's the best way to do instead of going out and punch everyone you see or want to hate, no? Our primal ancestors thrived on violence for survival, that is us, either you perceive it or not, its in you. How you deal it, its what counts.

Oh dont cry me a river please, more and more women are gaining ground in the upper echelons of society, does it take time? yes it does, but its happening, and some with good results. Women are good at games, some enjoy violent games, they are good at sports, lots of champions, and some actresses are proud of the pornography they do, thats called freedom.

This isn't mere "complaining", this is a continuation of Gamergate, which is an aspect of the Orwellian PC thought control agenda that is the staple of the "left" these days.

I know if I had always been apart of the "left" and then woooosh over the past maybe 5 years years 'my' entire field were being warped into this entirely bigoted stuff I'd be in here everyday fighting to bring sense back to the matter, distance myself and other MODERATES from this growing majority fringe minded bigoted bullies.
