Everyday I’m amazed you’ve survived one night more
Resisting the demons always lurking at your door
Like evening primrose you’re alive only at night
But the evil sees your beauty and, in that, it delights

I pull back the curtain so you, too, can see
The enchanting future awaiting you and me
You cast your eyes away and your mouth becomes a frown
You whisper that, ever so softly, that life can never be found

Feeling your misery I rush to your side and pull you near
I’ll stay here with you forever, I swear, don’t you hear?
You shake your head no as a tear leaves your eye
Someday I must leave, forever, and say my good-bye

We’ll fight side by side until the last fiend has gone
It can’t be much longer, you’ve fought for so long
The Gods will show mercy on our souls if we stay
If we leave they’ll abandon us and cast us away

No, dear child, their love is too great
They won’t allow this torture to become your fate
I’ll give you the strength of my soul and all the love in my heart
The peace found by going home will be your new start

You struggle to breathe, your eyes swollen from tears
I hold you again trying to subsume all your fears
I will die if I leave, from here, can’t you see?
By their chains I am bound and the vultures are circling me

I realize at that moment that no matter what I do
The demons have become, now, a part of you
You can’t let them go and I can’t make them leave
Only in the daylight do you find your reprieve

Potions and elixirs to make you sleep
Bringing rest from the interminable hours you weep
Your body begins twitching as you’re pursued in your dreams
Only passing relief from the persecution it seems

My armor is heavy prepared for battle once more
Sitting with weapons at the ready facing the door
I’ll protect you forever and always be here when you wake
I vow I’ll never leave you and your soul they’ll never take

Isn't a wake actually a death?

That was good and I can relate with it

How to see the enchantment with something trying to take a person soul?

Hah! Uninspired, My Pen!

Really though, awesome story.... Really deep, I felt a resonance within me rise up to meet the tale with joy as I read it...

I have my idea, but who is the teller of this story? Who is the 'i' in this case?

You are very kind.
I hope that people realize how much it means to just have someone read something you've written from the heart and it somehow reached out to them or touched them in some way.
It's quite amazing to me that for that brief moment in time, souls are connected.
The writer and reader are almost experiencing the same things. Not literally, of course.

Okay that's far out there!

It is written/spoken from a Mother's perspective as she is trying to protect/help her child.

Just telling the Truth as i see it, Miss^^

Ooh, Yeah, I mean I write for my Self, but it is an amazing feeling knowing that somebody else likes the treasure you just found just as much as you do... If you take it as they are experiencing the same idea, as I do, it is easy to see why writing is a grand unifier and is truly mightier than the sword.

Speaking of that difference, I perceived this initially as how the divine might approach us Humans... The parallels give those trembles of lightness. rereading it, I can indeed see this is a tale of a mothers love.

Again, Great Find!
