Why does Mexican Government block AboveTopSecret?

So, I live in Mexico and frequent this site. recently made an account.

Anyway today I had taken a walk at dusk, and decided to sit down at this park and take a breather.

Pulled out my phone checked my wifi to see if there were any open connections, and there was one. From the named: MxConectado-E.

Did a quick google search on it when I got home and it is an offical government sponsered hotspot to provide free web access in the public:

www.xataka.com.mx...

When I connected I got an official Mexican government logo and was asked to login. The ip address was: 189.192.132.196, looking it up on chrome search.

Well I could use the connection to surf the internet and all while I was resting. Then i decided to come here to this website and it gave me this error message:

"wired meraki 8090 blocked" and told me it could not connect to the website.

I tried other websites to see if there was something wrong with the connection and there wasn't.

So I am curious as to why the Mexican government on their public access points has this website blocked.

Did a Google search on the wired merki blocked thing and came up with this. I don't know if it will be helpful:

I figured out that 8090 is the port. Why would the Mexican government want to block port 8090?

Becuuuz, they don't want Mexicans getting any funny ideas, like the truth.

Often times the news in other countries has a different 'flavor'. Why pollute the home narrative?

My county's library service in England blocks ATS as an "occult" site.
This looks like the civil service mentality, believing in "playing safe".

Maybe its the other way around... Maybe theres some theres stuff going on in mexico that they dont want americans to know about? Maybe the american govt. told them to block it?

Not unusual at all. I work for a city and using the city server...or the library even...some sites they block for content(who knows the reasons)?

But a clue in what you said really tells it: you were looking for a free wifi....and thats the clue. Sometimes, independent wifi's are blocked from certain things.

Not too unusual. Remember...you are on someones elses server so...that one just happens to be governmental. And even my city blocks certain sites...porn, anti-gov, radical etc...

It's probably got something to do with Jaime Masson.

Next time you are out try going through a search engine like startpage.
or try typing in https instead of http for ATS

just use TOR and get a IP spoofer.

Thanks for all the tips. Makes sense, it was a public access point that has certain things blocked. And using a https instead of http is also something to think about.

I was just curious and that makes the most sense.

Why doesn't ATS use https as standard?
