Just a heads up for those who may not be aware of the Perseid meteor shower peaking August 12. There is speculation this event will be a hum dinger with up to 200 meteors an hour.. Hopefully the prediction will come close to being accurate without any big fragments making earth impact in a disagreeable way.

St.Augustine's tears.

My birthday is Aug 10th so I make a note of watching the Perseids every year.

It popped up on my Sky Map app while I was looking at the stars last night.

Capella was scintillating like crazy.

I have a night route that takes me out into the country with wide open skies in the Okeechobee Fla area. It is very dark out there and I'm really looking forward to this after being in Providence Rhode Island for the last 14 years and being lucky enough to see the big dipper with all the city light.

In just the last month I have seen some really nice shooters with some lasting up to 3 seconds or so on average, every other night. SO this should rock!

Hoping for some clear skies then, so I can find a dark spot, set up the camera and sit back to enjoy it.

Being unemployed right now, I at least have the chance to go sit out all night!

I will be at Bloodstock Open Air metal festival during this event. Here's hoping for clear skies, terrific beats, wailing guitars and fire from the heavens!

hmmm . . . I wonder if we can mine them while they're still nearby?
