Smokers, why do some of you do this?!

I had to go to the mall today. I hate going there, it's a cess pool (just my opinion). As I walked to the doors, there was a woman with two young kids talking with someone from the malls administration. Apparently, from what I heard, her kids got cigarette butts on their feet while walking into the entrance.

This is kind of a 50/50 split between smokers throwing their cigarette butts anywhere they feel like, and the mall staff not keeping up on cleaning. It's still so disgusting. Some malls might not have receptacles for butts, but this mall does! Just put out your cigarette in the right place so they don't end up on the feet of literally the 90% of people who are wearing sandals in the summer time.

Gross.

If there's nowhere to put, put it in your pocket.

When I smoke and I still occasionally do, mainly when I am socialising, I always use an ashtray or bin to discard the cigarette butt.

Discarding cigarette butts on the floor is lazy and selfish and obviously infuriates people. Littering is littering pure and simple.

As a non-smoker I used to LOATHE whenever my unit used to make me pick up cigarette butts in the parking lot of our motor pool while I was in the Army. I also hate when people chuck them on my lawn. The lawn mower doesn't chop them up and they don't biodegrade. People who chuck their butts annoy me.

slobs. but chewing gum is worse to step in for obvious reasons.

at almost all enterences to everything, there is a ash tray to toss the ciggies in. no real excuse...and if there really isn't, stub it out and throw it in the garbage (make sure its out of course..lick the fingers and press the top to make sure).

now let me rant for the next 4 paragraphs on the merits of quitting smoking...

I don't smoke either, but i appall having to walk outside where people freely toss them.

I wonder how difficult it would be to make a biodegradable cigarette..something that triggers reaction once exposed to water or something...
I wonder if there would be a market in that (actually, a more clever way would be to make it, test it, then bring to government and demand all ciggy companies adopt the "green" policy and use your filters..heh)

if there is a trash can or a butt container I use them, but if there is not one, then I field strip my cig, roll it in a ball, and flick it as far as I can hahahaha hate me, do it!

Yea that is a kind of change that would have to be enforced. Lord knows that cigarette companies aren't going to change for the betterment of people's health or the environment. We found that out in the 90's.

As a smoker I've never understood this. If you don't have a receptacle, it goes back in the pack, or into your pocket. If you think that's gross, well so is our habit so make the choice to be the polite smoker, I don't go out of my way to punish others for my bad habits.

I have some of my smoker friends tell me I'm being a bitch when we are somewhere crowded with no designated smoking area. I'll always go a bit out of the way so as not to get smoke too near any children. When I was a child I hated second hand smoke, and I'm sure children today hate it as well. But no, I become the "pussy" for wanting to be polite.

I know its my right to be a selfish prick, but ya know...... wasn't raised that way.

We do it because we're evil.

Don't know what else to tell you. Smoking causes evil. We become terrible people who should probably be shot on sight. Next time you see us, spit on us and call us names. Or just shoot us. I hear that's legal now.


Seriously? Never paid much attention to it to be honest.

It's not something that I've ever noticed.

But still, go ahead and beat us with sticks. We do deserve it.

Maybe we should just make smoking illegal since it kill more people than guns.

Considering that there are certain members of ATS (I won't name names though) who can't see how it is impolite to smoke a cigarette indoors and force all the people, non-smokers and smokers, alike to inhale their habit, it's not exactly surprising that people think like this.

But seriously, anybody that smokes today that didn't know smoking was bad for them is an idiot. And dropping their butts should be a ticket with a fine.

Better do it quick. You'd get millions in grant money....even if it didn't work. Then you can go bankrupt, start another company, get more grant money, go bankrupt, start another company.....

They usually keep butt cans outside mall entrances and it's not hard to detour 20 ft...but the same people who will walk around and shop for hours are too lazy to do that.

I'm fairly indifferent about it in urbanized areas. I feel like the concrete and asphalt has already littered the landscape far beyond any amount of cigarette butts I could ever generate in my lifetime.

Now when I'm out in nature I take steps to dispose of it properly.

It can be a ticket, its littering, but most of the time they ask you to pick it up first.. I don't smoke indoors, absolutely hate it, growing up my mother did it 24/7 and it drove me nuts, I never thought I would smoke ciggs one day too, but I do. # happens..

This is a holdover from the era of the filterless cigarette. They used to be completely biodegradable.
