I bet it's another "terror" mirage. Where Bush/ law enforcement win in the end. leaving citizens scared and wanting better security.. I truly hope this is a hoax.

from boston.com

The six are suspected of having come into the United States from Mexico, and may have headed to New York and then to Boston, the target of a planned attack that could involve a lethal substance, possibly chemical or biological or explosive, three law enforcement officials briefed on the threat said.

not much else in the story:

A couple questions. Why Boston? Why not NYC again, or Philidelphia, or DC, or someplace else? Do they have a grudge against the Red Sox winning the World Series? I just don't understand the importance of Boston as a terrorist target.

Alright, let's throw out a hypothetical here...

1.) There IS a dirty bomb in Boston.
B.) It CANNOT be found and explodes, killing thousands of people.

A dirty bomb will not kill thousands of people. Its a pure terror weapon. A roadside bomb will go off, radioactive material is released, detectors go off, people in the area get rounded up and scrubbed down along with buildings. Meanwhile terror sets in. Think of the reaction many are having to this thread right now. Now imagine if it actually went off.

Where is the ingo on radiation detectors going off? They're being set off a lot from non threat sources which are surprisingly common. Why would the detectors go off is there was no explosion? The explosion itself isn't necessary of course.

The main problem with intel is, you're damned if you do and you' re damned if you don;t.
The IRA used hoaxs all the time as it achieved the end result but without the planning and exposure of its members.

If the detectors have gone off, that means the material is now in the air?? correct? you dont need an explosion. But why would the detectors go off without being set off by the material??

The inauguration is on January 20th, tomorrow.

The network media is probably remaining silent to avoid causing a panic until more is known.

The Inauguration is tomorrow. (Thursday)

Bush will be sworn in in a secret ceremony in the morning, so in the event of some kind of emergency evac or situation at the public inauguration he will still legally be President.

the "show" inauguration is at noon on the steps of the capitol.

boston herald:

They were dropped by the source at a location. He literally threw them over a fence from Mexico to the U.S. side,'' said the source. ``There are pictures of the four Chinese and some names but just how accurate they are remains a question''

It's very weird. Even if (the Iraqis and Chinese) were going to do something why would they be blabbing to the yahoo smuggling them across the border? You have to wonder if they screwed him on a deal but you have to treat it seriously and the issue is how do you put it out to the public and not get everybody (in a panic)?''

Mass. Security Officials On Alert After Warning
FBI Investigates Uncorroborated Tip

POSTED: 3:35 pm EST January 19, 2005
UPDATED: 4:42 pm EST January 19, 2005

BOSTON -- The FBI notified Boston area law enforcement Wednesday to be on the lookout for four people described as possible terror suspects who may be headed to the area.

A federal law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the matter remains under investigation, told The Associated Press that the FBI's joint terrorism task force has not yet corroborated a tip that the suspects entered the United States through Mexico in recent days, possibly bound for Boston.

The official stressed the tip is one of many from around the country that routinely are forwarded to local task forces for further investigation. No credible, specific terror threat has been identified in connection with the tip about suspects possibly entering the country from Mexico.

The investigation prompted Gov. Mitt Romney, who was in Washington to attend Thursday's presidential inauguration, to decided to return to Boston later Wednesday evening, his spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom said. The governor planned to hold a news conference in Washington Wednesday night to discuss the matter before returning home.

FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz said the terror alert had not been raised for Boston.

Radiation does just that, it radiates, doesn't need to have been spread already to set of alarms, it just needs to be taken outside of the protective shelter where it was built, wich would be a logical thing to do if your planning to set it of.
