Best I can figure is that he'll have people jumping with him that'll do the guiding.

Apparently so...

Today 5pm Pacific, tape delay... bummer.

For the real deal he'll jump out with three other skydivers, one carrying a camera, another trailing smoke so people on the ground can follow his descent, the third ready to collect the oxygen tank he'll need for the first 10,000 feet of the fall.

The other three will then open their chutes at 5,000 feet, leaving Aikins alone with no one to hand him a chute in midair as has been done before.

If all goes according to plan, he will land two minutes later in a trawler-like fishing net 20 stories above the ground and only about a third the size of a football field. If he can pull it off, he will put his name in the history books as the only skydiver to go from plane to planet Earth without a parachute.

I hope he pulls this off and he would officially be the most bad ass daredevil in history. I personally don't see how he can pull it off with a net that small?

Actually, there are obviously risks, but this is possible. He will have chosen the conditions and the net is probably reasonably big. He'll have clear markers on the ground and he's experienced enough to orient himself properly.

Probably pointless having an ambulance on hand in case of error.

There, see? He's gonna wear a parachute after all, just in case.

Someone called that earlier. They win the betting pool.

What is the location where the jump will take place? When I got to the channel it sounded like the narrator had just mentioned it but I missed it. I only have heard desert.

So what is with the Screen Actors Guild and the parachute requirement? Is that due to TV broadcast or future movie rights?

edit:

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) was an American labor union which represented over 100,000 film and television principal and background performers worldwide

I suppose due to TV show.

Can't get on Fox. Apparently, I haven't bought enough stride gum.

Its a :30 second show anyway proceeded by one hour of commercial filler.

And if it 'fails', i.e., he deploys the chute, it will be a waste of time.

And if it fails, i.e. he misses the net in free fall, they won't show it.

And if its successful, half of America will go what a gyp, we wanted to see him go splat.

Meh, tuning into highlights tomorrow.

Chute no longer required.

edit:

A chute even unused sort of invalidates the idea of no chute.
