You want to talk frustration, then what that thread is about tops the list. Even if I were willing to put up the original conversation, I couldn't because of the T&C. Lots of four letter words.

It's easy to find. Just in an unusual place.

Hidden in plain sight. I was going back too far..

So the aforementioned aircraft was recently "retired?" I wonder about its replacement?..

Just thinking that. With 2 at Red flag (Black ones) and one Dragon then what would the replacement be..Been going crazy trying to see anything draw droppingly new..

They weren't at Red Flag. Only the Dragon was. They were at their usual home.

So what could be a Low Altitude Penetrator be now other than a B1 or theoretically an F111 replacement..

I'm still trying to figure out what the dragon was.

And while I whole heartedly share your enthusiasm, I don't think we're going to see anything jaw droppingly new for a very long time (if ever). Looks like the lid has been shut for the foreseeable future.

No, there are plenty of U-2s left. It's the other one that's a testbed. They won't start retiring the U-2 for at least a couple more years.

The F-111 replacement project never worked unfortunately. A skunk I know said they never got it flying in time and was eventually terminated due to lack of interest. The competition didn't fair much better and by that time our global strategy shifted towards strike fighter squadrons.

Hey good to see you posting here again.

(Speculation below)
I always figured a good idea would have been to make a bomber that was a little bigger than the f111/f117 but a little smaller than the b1. Do the roll of both as a compromise. Two bomber programs replaced by one to cut costs.

The full name of the U-2 is Dragon Lady, because if you treat her like a lady she's fine. As soon as you don't, you're riding a dragon.

I keep seeing people reference TTR which I'm guessing is Tonopah Test Range but are you talking about a particular aircraft project done out there? I'm not in the know like many of you guys.

They're still flying, as near as we could figure, at least four F-117s out there.
