An extremely rare white humpback whale was Tuesday spotted off the Australian coast as he migrates towards warmer tropical waters to mate.

Just wanted to share something positive for the day. Apparently this whale is famous and his name is Migaloo, I'm sure some of our Aussie friends may have heard of him recently. It's good to see that such a majestic creature is still around and able to grace us with his magnificence on occasion. Not much else to say other than that.

Aw, shucks! I saw this one at work and made a note to share, but I forgot.

I was going to put it in cryptids under the name Migaloo just for the fun factor though.

Australia's east coast humpback population has been brought back from the brink of extinction following the halting of whaling in the early 1960s. However, there are believed to be only two or three white humpbacks in the world.

Thats a rare find, thanks for bringing it.

Wow I had no idea!

I guess I can stop looking for symbolism in Moby Dick now, and accept the whale is just a white humpback.

Awesome post!

Beautiful.

With all the crap going on around the world, nature has a way of neutralising it.

"I cried. I screamed 'You gorgeous whale, thank you for being here for us today'," Alison Reid, who saw Migaloo on a whale watching cruise, told national radio.

Sorta how I feel just seeing the photo. (I was hoping for a vid.)

Lovely.

Migaloo is one of our treasures

He's been passing us by for a few decades now; I think the first sighting of him was in 1990-91? There's also another one we've aptly named Son of Migaloo

ETA:
White humpback 'Son of Migaloo' delights whale watchers off Byron Bay ~ The recent sighting may actually be Son of Migaloo, not Migaloo - still! A beautiful animal!

White whales tend to be rare in the first place but it's actually even rarer to spot them because they are susceptible to skin cancer. Nice photos!
