Finished with midterms and i have time to kill

OK so i was thinking

What if an alien race made us give them a resource they need, and in turn we wont be deystroyed. Well you are saying wouldnt it be easier to destroy us, and mine it themselves. No it would cost to much to deystroy a much more primitave race. So they let us extract the resource and meet are quota. They wont destroy us since it would just be a waste of a few bombs. They don't interfere with us or give us technology. They will let us be a puppet in a way. Instead of a close ally, that they will help develop we wont be helped. If they bring us up to their stage then we can challenge them. It dont make sense, why would they help us, and set themselves up for a fight, and deaths.

If aliens were millions of years ahead of us technologically then giving us a little tech probably wouldn't make us much of a threat.
If they are advanced technologicly they may have refined their mining process so that it wouldn't be so difficult to mine the resource themselves.
