Modern nuclear weapons are extremely efficient (clean IOW). They would have to be intentionally programmed to cause areas of the Earth to become uninhabitable for any considerable length of time. That's the truth ... and the other stuff is propaganda. If you don't believe me, all you have to do is take a look at the history of nuclear testing. The sheer number of detonations is the tell.
