This UAV displayed exceptional maneuverability, unlike most drones, due it is believed to the advanced US electronic systems installed by reverse engineering of the American US ScanEagle drone that was downed intact over Iran on Dec. 17, 2012.
Our military and intelligence sources say this fundamental upgrade was carried out under the instruction of Chinese cyber warfare specialists.
The IDF, the Israeli air force and other western armies, including the US Air Force, are anxiously trying to find out how many replicas of the purloined US ScanEagle the Iranians have been able to manufacture.
They all watched the Iranian drone’s performance in evading Israeli air force jets and helicopters and ducking air-to-air missiles and Patriot.

Drone over N. Israel: Iranian with stolen US apps

Well, I would say it is a mistake that US flies such things on Iran, Iran is a trap to capture them and reengineer them and test them on Israel !
If you remember they downed and captured one RQ-170 too some years ago and they promised to reengineer it
www.csmonitor.com...
Maybe we should wait when they test their RQ-170 on Israel too !!

The RQ-170 that was captured by Iran was reverse engineered and produced as the Shahed 171.

Can see a few on display here: s15.postimg.org...

Some are believed to be armed for naval strike roles.

Edit: If anyone is interested a complete list of Iran's drones can be found here: spioenkop.blogspot.co.uk...

Might be good to note which country's airspace the items were initially captured to maintain focus....

I am not sure which country but usually China and Russia are linked to Iran and Iran is linked to Hizbullah !

if true that's pretty cool.. i can imagine it dancing in the air as generals were speechless watching their missiles go haywire and the drone doing as it pleased

Iran captured the aircraft that was illegally occupying it's airspace...

Never mind the boogeymen, stick with the facts.

Yes, of course this is an interesting game and a risk. USA lost some of it's technologies in this gamble on Iran to it's rivals Russia and China !

The Chinese probably already had the technology. They have practically every other piece of US military technology.

The US Military should really start taking cyber security seriously. It's a complete joke in it's current state.

in 2008 a Russian developer released an app that meant anyone with a smartphone could watch footage on MQ-9 reaper drone cameras. That alone demonstrates the poor state of the whole affair.

It's Debka! They need to invent and inflate stories. It is amazing how many people fall for such stories. It might as well be written by Scorcha Faal.

Oh of course...Not. DEBKA is as reliable as HIllary clinton keeping a secret. ALso The RQ-170 drone in question was disabled with a freaking laser pointer and jamming. Irans drone isnt able to avoid laser guided missiles and gunfire either. This story is bull.

it`s just as likely that the drone wasn`t captured but was sold to iran by the obama administration. The drone getting captured could have just been a show for public consumption to cover the fact that it was sold to iran.

I thought Iran said they took control of the drone while it was over Afghanistan and landed it at an Iranian base.

also what Yuppa said.

The Iranians recovered it from a remote desert location. They had to fly it out as an under slung load by helicopter. See images at following thread. The video link is dead but I posted the screen shots at the time.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The Iranians claimed that they took control of it over Iranian airspace. It could simply have been a malfunction over Iranian airspace with the Iranian propaganda machine taking over. There was no way that the Iranians were not going to spin it for all they were worth.

They downed and captured it in a desert in Iran called Tabas according to Iranians, well the name Tabas is associated with another mess by USA's army called Operation Eagle Claw you can check it in wiki ! the drone was going towards the nuclear facilities of Iran which are near that desert.

I remember that USA's army doubted and they expected that the drone had been exploded, ruined or at least it had cleaned it's data automatically, but it seems it had not !

Iranian guy told me they GPS spoofed it after they used a laser designator to disrupt and jam its GPS signal. Causing it to go off course and crash in the desert. it didnt land at all. If they had truly hacked it they would had made it land on a road or airstrip.

Also the"footage" was found to be not from the rq-170s data banks. it was hoaxed.
