Got to do something yesterday that myself and a friend had been running through our minds for the past couple of weeks. With WATCO Companies LLC
taking over operations of the New York Central's former "West Virginia Branch" and a portion of the former Virginian Railway's Princeton - Deep Water
mainline after being leased from Norfolk Southern. We made the decision yesterday to head up on the former Virginian Railway to get some footage and
recordings of WATCO's locomotives climbing the grades between Deep Water and Oak Hill, West Virginia. However, my friend wasn't the only one who got
to see this. As the train was leaving Dickinson Yard at Quincy, West Virginia for the run to Alloy. My dad and nephew go to see the train pull out of
the yard for the start of its journey south.
Clawing its way along the former Virginian Railway with the sanders working hard to help with traction. Three Kanawha River Railroad locomotives lead
an eastbound freight through one of the rock cuts along the line at Robson, West Virginia.
Making its way under the conveyor belt to the load out for New River Mining. WAMX 4221 and its two sisters scream as the bring a freight train through
Page West Virginia. This photo is now my new cover photo on my Facebook.
Those EMD products were working hard to get up the mountain and they were digging in preparing for a FIGHT!
Somehow and some way, we actually missed catching this thing again on further down the line at Plum Orchard Lake. They may have been held at Silver
Gap to wait for another train or it may have been when we tried to go out Toney's Fork but had to turn around due to a wreck being cleaned up. Even
with it being hot as the fires of Hell here for the past several days. Had a great time being able to partake and experience this and I will be back
multiple times over the near future.
