By today's definition.
Replay doesn't work in RL.

Given what they did and why, they'd still be terrorists today too.

You didn't get it. They are NOW called terrorists. They weren't then. "Terrorist" didn't become the American boogyman until about 15 years ago.

As you said.... try again.

Oh, I forgot. The Manson Family was a cult like group who carried out bloody murders with the express purpose of trying to ignite a race war.

That's why I say they could be considered terrorists. They were seeking to affect the larger political climate.

In effect, I think this is what we're seeing here, an attempt to initiate escalated hostilities.

Maybe it's the Mandala effect (lol), but I never remembered Nichols and McVeigh ever being called anything but terrorists. For one thing, they were easy to attempt to link to the right by the Clinton Admin who tried, so terrorist was a good label to hang on them.

And I simillarly don't recall the Unibomber ever being called anything else.

Likewise, I don't recall the abortion clinic bombers ever being called anything else either. Meaning that when the Centennial Park in Atlanta was bombed, terrorism was what it became. Pro-Choice advocacy groups are only too gleeful to hang that label.

It's not like terrorism is new. We've always seen it.

1995

The main outlines of Mr. McVeigh's life -- his obsession with weapons, his failure to become an Army Green Beret, his rage at a Federal raid that left some 80 Branch Davidians dead in Waco, Tex. -- became known in the days after he was charged with the worst terrorist act in American history.

By today's standards. What's so hard to understand? NO ONE called the Manson family terrorists back then. This is basic logic.

Yes, I think you are right about that.

It makes sense to me to not publish it just yet, so it does not add fuel to the fire of some wanna be copycat.

I'm of the opinion all the MSM likely has a copy in hand. Sometimes they actually act responsibly.

My follow up post only referenced the most recent set.

As you can see, white people DO get called terrorists.

Here's a compilation of early footage from Centennial Park. The dreaded "t" word is referenced at about 2 minutes in.

The skinny is that Johnson was called a terrorist.

Did you watch the video of Micah Johnson in action ?

Did THAT look like a guy not in control of ALL his faculties ?

I don't know about you but gunning people down is insane in my book. If it isn't in yours......

Is there anything in the legal definition of domestic terrorism which precludes crazy?

If you have something to say, say it. Let's not play.

Sanity is subjective term.

Like people droning other people in other countries, and it not given a second thought or called 'nuts'.

I'm not. Just not in the mood for a semantics game. Even with someone as esteemed as yourself. I'm not talking "legal" definition but someone that decides to play god and end others lives IS nuts. "Nuts" is a cover all. Narcissism, psychosis, sociopathy, etc.

Ok.

I will clarify my statement. Is it inconceivable that a terrorist is also crazy?

All terrorists are rational and sane. Thank you, for that clarification.
