1. There is no true answer? Can black holes travel through space as an entity i.e. have a group velocity?

2. LOL don't know, but it sounds interesting. Reminds me of Einstein comparison of the telephone and cats : P

4. Super and nova? Does the creation of a black-hole qualify as a type of nova?

This is the current test.

I've been meaning to update this thread for awhile, and considering that it's been
two years, I figure I should do so.

I've created a new test, so just ignore the test I posted above this post way back when.

uh im no science wiz, actually i stoped taking science in grade 11 (to much work for me, very interesting though) anyway my question was (excuse me if this sounds stupid) if there is only energy and matter what category does fire fall into?

edit: Another thing, does anyone have an estimate of the time it will take our technology to let us be able to travel at light speed?

Fire, if I'm not mistaken is technically a kind of Plasma, which is the fourth state of matter.

Short answer, never.
We can not travel at or faster than the speed of light, there are however loopholes that allow
us to get around it without actually traveling faster than light.

oh thanks for the info, it would have been cool to travel at the speed of light though, but how will we ever get to other solar systems? wormholes?

Wormholes are one of the theoretical possibilities for relatively fast interstellar travel,
Hyperdrives and space warping are also possibilities.

You don't have to travel faster than light to get to another Solar System either,
it just takes longer, for instance, if you got your ship going to 99% the speed of light,
it would take a little over 4 years to reach the nearest star, though it would be
considerably less time aboard the ship due to time dilation.

The faster you go, the more the effects of Time dilation become noticeable.

Even though four years will have passed for the observer, and indeed the ship will have
been traveling for four years, time aboard the ship itself would be going at a much
slower rate, so much so that a four year trip would only be a few months or less
aboard the ship if you were going fast enough.
