Defending him is exactly what we should be doing and all others in similar situations. Criminal pasts have no bearing on whether or not a person has inalienable rights. Especially in places where you end up in prison for sneezing wrong. Prison, sadly, for most people only turns them meaner so taking a petty criminal and locking them up for years because it's their third offense is counter productive to a healthy society. We also have way too many punishable offenses out there. These are symptoms of an authoritarian state.

We don't yet know whether these cops were defending their lives or not and we may never know. What we do know is that there are good cops and there's bad cops. We also know there's a racial problem in the south (not all southerners, calm down), that there's a small percentage of white cops in the KKK. Which were these cops? We ought to question how much authority and who wields it. Every. Single. Time.

Most are offenses that were law when mankind was made. I think his past has a lot to do with what transpired. His past says he was a bad guy. Isn't that important?

I do agree that the video doesn't quite tell the whole story, and we cannot see what happened before hand. But using a little common sense and his PAST show that the suspect is indeed capable of violence, and violence towards the police which he has done in the past.

This isn't about the victim..its about the actions of the cop. I will let the investigation figure it out of course, I dont know the full details, but I didn't see much in the way of guns or anything of immediate threat, but I am a civvy here and am not sure how they train people in spotting threats...didnt seem wildly threatening though.

I will say this..if a cop is about to arrest you...dont fight..completely remove that fight or flight instinct and simply sigh and capitulate. No matter what you are going to jail, so fighting or running will only make you get more charges, or dead.

Not a judgment a cop can make. a cops job is to stop a person by force necessary...not make judgments on who the person is, what they did in the past, etc...they focus on the threat right at the moment.

saying he is a child molestor...so what. that doesn't mean execute on spot, nor can he manifest guns magically. same with burglery. Assault may be relevant in regards to prewarning knowledge, but that doesn't mean shoot just because he may fight back..it means kneel on him. If he is going for a gun, sure...shoot..but you better see that gun being literally pulled before you unload..no mistakes, this is a life regardless of anyones opinion on his past.

It has been explained countless times that the cops did not know who he was so how could they know he was a sex offender (he dated a 14 year old when he was 20 which is reprehensible but it doesn't make him a child molester) or that he had any record at all? He was also already punished for those crimes.

He was no saint clearly but as I said in previous reply that's no reason to attempt to exonerate abuse of power or attempt to squash the questioning of power.

I understand what you are saying about due process... But that comes AFTER the person is arrested. Were the cops supposed to let him get that gun? What is so hard to understand? They get a call of a man with a gun, the guy resists, they taze him, does not work and he keeps resisting, while armed...And "apparently" reaching for that gun.

The guy's past at that very instance does not matter, no. What matters is how the guy acted when they were trying to arrest him. What I am saying is this guy's past matters only in that he was a bad guy and it shouldn't be surprising that he died the way he did, and that he shouldn't be glorified as some innocent good guy. Your misinterpreting what I am trying to say.

Oh the PC police are what have ruined what people in the police force do. Example is the screen shot above. Oh looky...he is pinned down so he is no threat. I'm sure I missed it. Where does it say he was a '19 time felon'? I'm pretty sure you're probably jailed for good after about six felonies.
