Gone Gone Gone originally by the Everly Brothers.
Then the version by Robert Plant and Allison Krauss.
Not to mention Plant's version of If I were a Carpenter. Originally written by Tim Hardin.
Oh, and the whole Stairway to Heaven dribble ( SORRY,someone was going to go there, lol)

Bruce Springsteen's original "Blinded by the Light":

And here's the cover done by Manfred Mann's Earth Band:

As far as I'm concerned, MMEB took Springsteen's song, upped it by ten notches, and made it all their own.

I will always love you by Whitney Houston is better than the Dolly Parton version, also I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers version of Higher Ground better than Stevie Wonder's version.

A friend of mine was rolling some videos for party guests last night and he tan across Hayseed Dixie's version of Thunderstruck. This got a good laugh out of alot of the guests.
Plus it is quite possible that it's better than the original.

I guess I will go for the most obvious one.

All Along The Watch Tower- Bob Dylan

And, in my opinion, a slightly better version by Jimi Hendrix

ok done, now back to being 'mature' again. sigh. KEEP CALM but Laugh sometimes too.

I like those. I like "Weird Al" Yankovic; I think he's great. My preference for satirical songs is songs that satirize the ridiculousness of life in general. Why stop at just satirizing a song when you can satirize the absurdity of all of ordinary 'life'?

Agreed!

I cannot decide if I prefer this version of Purple Haze or Jimi's.

Always prefer the remake of Blue Monday to the original. Parts of the original great as well.

This will be heresy to some but I prefer Spiderbait's Black Betty over Ram Jam's:

Ram Jam:

Then again I AM a metalhead.

This one has always had me on the fence. Both great versions and G ' N' R killed it with the cover album.

I LOVE Dio,
however, I never liked this song until I heard Doro sing it on the Tribute to Dio album:

If anyone wants to know how the "spaghetti indecent" came about I can say but it's disgusting as hell.

fire when ready. Nothing can be any worse then half the other threads around here some nights. Lots of people say that album was garbage but it was always one of my Favorites when it came out. They did wonderful job on most of the covers they did.
