I wonder if any explorer was not inspired by tales of adventure told when they were very young.

Or . . . perhaps sometimes . . .

by the aggrieved husband or creditors chasing them to the ends of the earth . . . or acting like they would.

NASA source: marsmobile.jpl.nasa.gov...

It's peculiar how anyone could see anything conspiratiorial or sinister in this. To me, it's partly a nod to the past (the retro space exploration posters and books), partly a hopeful initiative to inspire the future generation of astronauts and space scientists.

If anything, it's cute.

NASA have also released these retro-looking space exploration posters: www.jpl.nasa.gov...

I love these sentimental and imaginitive forays into the future of space exploration; it's the original spirit of early science fiction novels and movies.

The best such effort, so far, for me, is the short film "Wanderers"

Teary eyed indeed !

Great video... makes me want to go pull out all my sci-fi movies and have a movie-watching binge fest.

*sniffle*
