You beat me to it! I was fighting with the text box which was demanding 7500 characters. WTF!?

Anyways...

This is the third largest airport in Europe. Of course it's close to Syria/ME. Also it's Ramadan. Speculation is, of course, is that it is terrorism. Supposedly a very secure and fortified airport.

There has long been suspected ties between Turkey and ISIS, so kind of curious on that point.

Two explosions have hit the main airport in Istanbul, a Turkish official has said, with reports saying around 40 people have been wounded.

Gunfire was reportedly heard at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, while footage showed people running for cover.

Turkish broadcaster Haberturk said that 40 people had been taken to hospital.

Hand grenades were thrown and police opened fire on the attackers, Haberturk said.

One of the explosions happened at the domestic terminal, while another happened at the international terminal, NTV reported

Government officials told CNN Turk that at least one of the blasts may have been a suicide attack.

Taxis were ferrying the wounded from the hospital, witnesses told CNN Turk.

More than a dozen ambulances were also seen rushing to the scene.

SO the police engaged with them.

Which speaks about a rule I really think is dumb on ATS, the idea that because something is in a different forum you can have the exact same post..

Sort of silly because people get split where they are reporting info.

No issues with a MOD closing this.

Yep although to be honest breaking news like this should be in the breaking news section as it's the one most people will look at as I know not everyone uses the new topics tab, what would be great is if the mods could merge threads together without closing off conversation from the usual 3 or 4 threads of the same the topic that pop up in circumstances like this

So they used grenades and guns before blowing themselves up at two different terminals, one domestic, one international.

That sounds like a helluva distraction to me.

I reeeeeally hope all departing flights were cancelled and, if any left, they are double/triple checked upon entry into other countries.

Turkey bans reporting of terror attacks so it will be very difficult for locals to get news once the scene is secured and things settle down.

Maybe in Turkey, but thanks to that little thing called the internet...they will get the news.

The only way Turkey could stop that would be to ban it altogether, and as far as I know they haven't.

I am wondering if they believe it could be ISIS, or are they thinking it could be the PKK...both use the same tactics.
